Hard Drive Temps too high?

I have just downloaded Speedfan, and it uses SMART to monitor hard drive temps. I have an 80 GB Seagate hard drive, and it is reporting 46-47 degrees celcius. Is this something to be concerned about? My CPU temp is only 40 degrees. I havea 9800 PRO which runs kind of hot, and sits near the hard drive, could it be causing this?

Thanks for any help

As JBDan asked what case do you have?

Also I might add do you have any air blowing over your h/d??

I have 2 - 80mm fams blowing over my harddrives!!

I think it's too high.

In one machine, I have two SATA150's behind a 120mm intake fan, and a temperature sensor on the top metal plate of one hard disk. Now, granted, S.M.A.R.T. reports an internal HD temperature -- I think -- but the temperature off the sensor is only a few degrees above room temperature.

Another machine has a YS-Tech 70mm tip-magnetic fan blowing on two HD's, and an 80mm Zalman OP-1 blowing into the noses of an additional three drives. Those fans are quiet. The Tip-magnetic really pushes a lot of air for its size, also.

Make sure your HD is mounted in the next to the bottem bracket. I would use 2 80mm med speed exhaust fans since your case can support it. Your side intake is taking away from the "air tunnel" effect (from front bottem to rear exhaust). Best bet if you feel like doing a little tinkering is to duct that side vent directly over your cpu (hopefully your mobo socket placement allows for this) and remove that side intake fan. Let the cpu HSF pull the fresh air in through the duct. To test, since you probably dont have a duct on hand, just remove that side intake and mount it to the rear exhaust with your other one. Tape up the side vent as the exhausts will just be pulling air in and spitting it right back out....no good. (Also I noticed on the front intake on your case...little perforated holes are not very well tailored to good intake airflow. More about this later though). 1st clean up your cables if they look like they are causing impedance to airflow. Mount HD in the next to last bracket from the bottem. Do the double exhaust fan w/ sidevent taped off...See what temps you get after 20-30 minutes.. What 80mm fans are you running?

When I was building my computer, I placed it on the side and top cover (side cover) off, hard drive usually reaches 43-45C with almost no load. Once I finish putting everything in my case, I put a fan at the front intake which is right next to the hard drive, right now the temperature is around 30-33C.

Thanks for the replies guys

How would i go about making a duct and mounting it for the side hole? And for fans i am using the 80mm once that came with the case (side intake), and a compusa sleeve fan(exhaust). Are these decent? I thought all 80mm fans were pretty much the same since im not overclocking or anything. What kind should i get if they need to be replaced?

For the duct, something like this>http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/...roduct_info&cPath=172&products_id=1460
For the fans I would look at these>http://www.jab-tech.com/Panaflo-80mm-M1BX-FBA08A12M-pr-3035.html

Thanks for all your help guys, i got two 80mm fans in the front, and 2 80mm exhaust in the back, and i taped up the side hole with plastic and duct tape. MY HD temp is down to 31 celcius and my CPU is down to 38 under load, and it was idling at 40 before!! Since i removed teh fan from the side, the PC is also a lot quiter.

Thanks again
