Hard drives--WD vs. Maxtor

I'm looking for a new hard drive---7200 rpm, 60-80 GB capacity. Any thoughts on which is better WD or Maxtor? It would be IDE interface. Are the RMA policies any better for one over the other?

I personally prefer Seagate and IBM, but I have had success
with quick turnarounds on RMA's w/ WD and Maxtor.

I know I just posted about a Fujitsu drive (picked it up in a trade). I am a Western Digital fan. Have been for many years.

However, Maxtor's quality has risen over the past few years. They are both good brands, in my opinion.

There is a lot of variety in the harddisk market right now. Go to www.storagereview.com, see what they have to say about it. They also have a reliability database.

I work as a repair tech at a major national computer retail chain.

We only sell Maxtor and Western Digital hard drives. I would like to carry more of a selection, but of course that decision is made by bigwigs way above my head.

We have a smaller return ratio with the Maxtor drives. We also use them almost exclusively in our tech shop.

That's just my 2 cents.

I vote for the 7200 Diamond Max plus series of HD's. They work great, are a great value, and have that 'no-quibble about it' 3 year return policy incase you have a problem. They ship you a new HD and you have up to 30 days to get the defective one back to them.

i personally have never had experience with a western digital. However, i've had a few encounters with the maxtor and i give it an A+. I am a total maxtor fan, especially for their durability and long life. Also, you might as well get the maxtor with the ata133... it opens up upgrade options for later on when u want a new controller/motherboard. However, i can't really say not to get the western digital because i've never worked with it before.
