You know this reminds me of that Scooby Doo tune where it goes something like, "Scooby Dooby Doo..where are you..you've got some work to do nowwwww" except replace Scooby Doo with ATi. I really hope they clean up their act, I don't want $800 cards in the near future because ATi can't release products in a timely fashion.

Edit:

Ah hell since I liked that cartoon so much I'll dedicate this to ATi:

ATi, Where Are You? We got some work to do now.
ATi, Where Are You? We need some help from you now.
Come on ATi, I see you... pretending you got a sliver
But you're not fooling me, cause I can see, the way you shake and shiver.

You know we got a product to launch, so ATi be ready for your act.
Don't hold back!
And ATi if you come through you're gonna
have yourself a fat paycheck!
That's a fact!

ATi, here are you. You're ready and you're willin'.
If we can count on you ATi, I know we'll catch that green nVidia villian.

Buy a 7800 then. They're under $800, and available now. Then you wouldn't have to whine about how late ATi is and so forth.

Everyone knows that ATI has had big problems this year and made some major mistakes. But to kick someone when they're down like this just seems uncalled for. Maybe someone didn't get their R520 review cards from ATI?

Kick someone when they're down...? WTF...? I think Kyle is right on the money here... ATI has blatantly used the press for it's own purposes this year while actually producing almost nothing new. How many sites (including AT) has had CrossFire benchmarks? Where are the actual boards? Nowhere... It's complete BS, and I'm glad that someone else went "Sander" on ATI.

For the record... NV isn't one bit better. There was a whole lot of noise about the supposed "fixing" of the shimmering issue. NV got all the press about how they "fixed" the shimmering on this forum and on nvnews. Then people started noticing the shimmering is still there, and the whole issue went quiet. Apparently, they think that adding "addressed AF shimmering" in the driver release notes takes care of the problem, well it doesn't. This isn't exactly the same as the CrossFire situation, but I personally feel that both Rollo and ChrisRay were intentionally given the 78.03 drivers claimng to fix the issue because they knew that these two guys would put the word out that the issue was fixed. Obvioulsy, they knew that they couldn't claim say it themselves because they knew it was BS.

As anyone can clearly see from my sig, I have quite a bit of money in this rig, and the AF shimmering is a real disappointment. I was hopeful that NV would fix the issue as they did with the white textures in HL2 with trSSAA, but it was not the case.

Shame on both NV and ATI for using their fans, their customers, the review sites, and the good faith of the enthusiast community to spread BS. I don't think anyone expects their products to be perfect 100% of the time, but I think we would at least appreciate a bit of honesty and integrity in the way they conduct business.

And a big "Hell Yeah!" to Kyle for not being a push over and reminding ATI that they need the press every bit as much as the press needs them.

You're RIGHT!

Edited for truth. Leave it up to Rollo to stray from the Video forum with his nVidia propaganda.

ATI knows that if they let benchmarks be published, and they're in the vicinity of the 7800GTX, it may get people to wait till they can iron out their production issues.

Let's not forget the broken PVP in the AGP 6800 family of cards.

Honestly, all I wanted was for the incredible launch (as in the launch itself) of the 7800 GTX to make ATi give up the paper launch. After nVidia made it really apparent that you can actually release a product to the world with full availability, I hoped it would force ATi to follow suit, but apparently they just keep on trucking through press releases like they don't care. Too bad.

It makes sense if you're about to drop that kinda money...i'd rather pay the same for a faster/same speed card with Avivo in a months time than a 7800GTX now..if that is indeed the case...

You are acting like nothing at all is done in the drivers.

No one was used, my buddy told me to try them, and that if I posted about them to make sure I noted that they were "a work in progress" and not ready for release.

I did, and I noted anomalies. (the flashing grass in one area of BF2)

I said I didn't see any shimmer in the three games I tested, so it seemed fixed to me.

Sheesh, sorry- they are working on it, and as I never even noticed it before I went looking for it, it's not like you fire up UT and see pixellated sprites.

The people who reviewed this said it greatly reduced or eliminated the problem- it's not like they made it worse and thumbed their nose at us?

It did absolutely nothing for the shimmering for me in Guild Wars. Looks like butt compared to every other card that I have used for that game, pratically makes me sick playing it (shimmering). Looks like crap and it is truely gawd-awful that my $350 card looks like crap nex to the $70 9700 Pro I was using for a bit this summer, not mention the x800xl, and the 6600 I used as well... Anyway, it is just disgusting that it hasn't been fixed yet. I am using the 78.03's. I could care less about UT, but the game I used to play hours upon hours on just sits there and awaits drivers deserving it. I am not angry at the testers, but nvidia for sitting on this since the launch of the 7800GT at least.

Running CS:Source at 1400*1050 with 4xTRSSAA and 8xAF and getting a steady 80-100FPS is pretty awesome though

And I got over checking Kyle's site for anything but benches when Kyle booted some people for complaining about a poor (really sh!tty, actually) experience with BFG's "Lifetime" warranty that they always tout so much...

You must have missed Kyle blasting Matrox for not supplying him with a Parhelia way back when (similar in style to Sander Sassen's R520 benchmark article).

I'm surprised people are picking on reever for noting Rollo's all caps title. It's basic netiquette, especially considering Kyle isn't adding anything new to the conversation. Or maybe Rollo is just having trouble controlling THE VOLUME OF HIS VOICE.

"Poor old me, I'm just a collector but everyone flames me".
-Rollo

Ironically Rollo feels crossfire is actually valid for LCD users (nullifying the 60 Hz limit) because 1600x1200 is the resolution he was voluntarily running his 6800GT SLI and 7800 SLI setup for many months.

Also using his logic [ H ] are jealous of ATi since they demand higher settings, much like I'm jealous of Rollo by demanding he uses 16xAF.

You know, you guys whining and complaining about the ATi thing, saying how it's unjust and such, were the same guys flaming NVIDIA for the PVP in the AGP 6800's. WTF? :disgust: You were also the same ones I saw (before I registered, mind you ) flaming NVIDIA about the NV3x. All of it is just. All ATi flaming about CrossFire and R520, all NVIDIA flaming about the 6800's PVP, "shimmering", and NV3x. OK. Let's move on now.

Stop bashing people for bashing ATi for their proverbial F*CK UP. THEY SKREWED UP GUYS. There's NO getting around it. NVIDIA screws up, ATi screws up, its just the thing. I get tired of coming in here, seeing the same damn people flaming the likes of Rollo for posting a bit of news. I got flamed by Rollo once (when I first registered, it was a misunderstanding), and you know what? He's not that bad of a guy. Sure he's partial to NVIDIA. I am too. I have reasons:

1.) Had a Radeon 7500. Sucked ass. Replaced it with a GeForce2, and I was happy for nearly 3 years.
2.) Until quite recently, NVIDIA's drivers frickin' OWNED ATi's. I mod ForceWare drivers to support laptop GPU's, and I do it, because I can.

I have also not heard ONE bit about the "shimmering" over at TweaksRUs forums. Why? Because IMO, its all of the ATi Facists claiming this BS. The two "founders" of TRU, both have 7800's (one 7800GTX, one 7800GT), and none of them have complained. Hmmm... Sounds a bit fishy to me. Probably because all ATi fanboi's like to blow it all out of proportion. BS.

I like NVIDIA, and I'm called "GeForceTony" because I have not had much of a complaint as far as they go. I have owned MANY cards from MANY companies, including (in chronological order):

-NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT (current)
-NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700Ultra
-NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
-NVIDIA GeForce2 MX400
-ATi Radeon 7500
-3DFX Voodoo3 3500
-S3 Savage4 Pro
-Rendition Verite V2100
-Rendition Verite V1000

Many companies, as you can see. Guess what? Out of them ALL, NVIDIA has been the best. Why do you think my last few cards have been NVIDIA? I like them.

I would buy an ATi card IF they could best NVIDIA on speed, stability, compatibility, features, etc. But, since the days of the R3x0, and the NV3x, ATi has been in the catch-up for the most part (specifically, features). But, until that day comes, I'll stick to NVIDIA .

Now why don't you get into my 'Nvidia blocky and awful shadows in Farcry' thread and explain that away...why EVERY nvidia card has a FAR lower IQ than their ATI counterparts, even with high quality set in the drivers?

Crossfire has been somwhat of a mess so far, and here's to hoping ATI can get their act together...which they not only will, but have to.

EDIT: and if r520 is a 7800GTX beater 9and we'll know tmrw, this is the subject you're going to be flogging the hardest isn't it?

come on now dug, i respect you man, but thats just alittle over the top. certainly NV40 onwards the IQ has been the same. lots of reviews even say this.

imo ati are up to the necks in Xbox 360 gpu issues. Where as nvidia learned from the xbox 1 and basically gave the ps3 a fast 7800 ati have promised a brand new architecture for the xbox 360 which is a big ask. With microsoft pounding on ati's door wanting to release the xbox asap everything else such as R520, crossfire, etc. has taken a back seat. I suspect ati will fullfil microsofts demands but only by sacrificing everything else.

AT says ATI IQ is higher. I've never owned or played with an ATI card besides the 9000 on my sister's 600M, but I finally noticed the shimmering over the summer (6800GT) with farcry and guild wars. The only reason I'm not complainning? I don't play those games anymore .

Lets wait what? 18 more hours to see if it is availibile. (the r520XL that is)

And those damn 81.82 drivers didn't fix the shadow bug, if anything they made it worse
