I swear everyone complains Quicksave makes games too easy... then you take it away and people cry. Make up your minds.

I was quite impressed by the demo and will be looking to get the full game.

That said, i think the real winner here is the game engine itself. I was very impressed at how well it ran on my ageing 8800gt and dual core.

Awesome. Looking forward to run this on my 9800 GT

Looked and performed well on my paltry 4670, and was fun. On sale, I'd buy it.

I don't generally have issues with quicksave or checkpoint saves. The save system that really reeks is ones like Bioshock where they just respawn you with no consequences. Just rushing an area over and over again with a wrench becomes a valid almost ideal strategy. Lets them dumb down level design when they don't have to worry as much about how well off the average player will be after each encounter (similar to regening health). That's what really pisses me off about a lot of modern games; they seem to put a lot of effort into being able to be really lazy with level design.

Personally, I didn't find the demo too exciting. Really standard FPS with some interesting mechanics thrown in. The graphics look OK at best, but at least the engine seems to run well on all sorts of systems. The art direction was pretty good for the most part, but, again, standard in other areas.

I think I would get bored of the game too quickly, if the demo is any indication. Probably just not my thing, but I can see why people would really like it.

I just played the demo, took me about 20 mins to finish. I ran the game on the Ultra setting @1920x1200 on my 1GB 9800 GT (no AA) and it was surprisingly smooth.

I loved every minute of it. The explosions feel very palpable, as if things are truly exploding right next to me, and the sound effects are sick.

I tried the shotgun (great but runs out of ammo quickly) and the version of the energy gun that charges up then unloads in one shot. Both were tons of fun to play with.

The last fight was very frantic, I think I ended it with something like 4 hp! The game feels sufficiently challenging. I played it on normal, and I did not die, but I barely survived on more than one occasion.

The game feels like a mix of Serious Sam and Painkiller (which is great) with environmental damage added in. There are lots of secret rooms hidden all over the map, and the attention to detail in the surroundings is awesome (the ads are quite funny).

My only gripe is the sprint. First, the screen blur is awful. Unbearable, really. It feels like they added the NFS NOS effect, which doesn't make any sense for someone running on their feet. Plus, you can't sprint unless your spring bar is full.

But that's a very minor complaint, and I dealt with it by simply not using sprint while playing.

I heard the final game will be 8-10 hours long, which is too short in my opinion. I was hoping for a 15-20 hr game. I will still definitely get the game though.

Complaining that the game was too short when you set the difficulty to easy is stupid.

Any updates? I enjoyed the demo...

I'm playing it right now, currently on level 4. I've been enjoying it a lot so far. I'll post a longer review when I'm near-finished/finished, but I can certainly tell you already that it's pretty awesome.

I bought it, I don't care much for the reviews where they play the game on Easy. Retarded monkeys and reviewers play games on easy and then bitch about the length. I voted with my dollar to support a PC exclusive.

Ok, so what we changed after the demo.
1. Added a FOV slider in Menu>Options>Video
2. Added a Fast Menu option in the Main Menu
3. Fixed a Crash - while in game, Video Options, with any of the expandable menus open, after pressing ESC the game crashed.
4. Due to various bugs we removed the ability to use console commands FOR THE TIME BEING. When we'll deal with the bugs (mostly saving the current AI state issues) we will reimplement console commands.
5. Fixed compatibility issue with _____x1200 Vertical resolution in menus.
6. Implemented German Steam achievements.
7. Fixed various localisation issues.
8. Improved loading times between levels.
9. Added different tabs in Load Game menu for each difficulty level separately.
10 Removed the Benchmark as it was especially designed for the free Demo version. If you want we will reimplement the Benchmark in the upcoming patch.
11. Improved in-game video replay.
12. Added 6 additional checkpoints throughout the game.
13. Fixed an issue with the profile system - Video Options will now be correctly applied after changing from a Steam profile to a Local one.
14. Fixed various issues concerning level geometry.

The game is now available in English (full voiced version), German (full voiced version), Russian (full voiced version) and Polish (cinematic).

We are currently implementing a full support mode for Eyefinity/3dVision.
We are also preparing a patch that will adress some of the issues you mentioned on the forums and in the emails.

Some surprises await you in the near future, and we will support Hard Reset even after its launch.

We want to show you that WE do care about the PC gamers community and our fans.

Have fun guys and stay tuned for more info.

So quick-save is no longer possible?

the no quick save isnt a big deal there is a checkpoint every 20 feet

Yup. It feels like it autosaves every 3 minutes or so.

Although I'm not gonna lie, I'm trying to get past a huge boss fight right now and a quicksave could certainly come in handy.

I want to like it, but I just don't.
Played it for about an hour, and it's just not interesting to me.
I enjoy the guns and upgrade system (although there's not much truly "new" there) but the rest of the game is just blah.
It looks and sounds ok, no complaints there, but if it doesn't make me want to play it, everything else is meaningless.

making it an hour or 2 longer by increasing difficulty so you die 20 times and have to replay sections is really stupid too.

The first time I played through duke3d I probably died 20 times in the first 30 minutes. It's part of the game...

In the demo there was one spot where I would die over.. and over.. and over.. until I figured out the best way to kill the enemies and then it was simple. I probably died 10-15 times and am glad I didn't move it to easy to make less enemies.

Basically, this game does not cater to the console "linear play through regen health so I never ever die and tons of ammo so every single player is happy" mantra. This is fine with me, and others I'm sure.

I played the demo on normal and didn't die once. Problem with these kinds of shooters is you just strafe while moving backwards and you dont die. When I finally get around the playing the full game I think I'll just do it on easy, as I want to look around the levels and stuff but the game itself I'm sure will be boring.

Then you are going to die every turn in the full game. And on normal there are tons of health and ammo packs strewn about. If you actually run out then you are doing something wrong. It is also incredibly linear. Often times you back track over the same area, albeit on a crosswalk or other path, to get through to the next area. I don't have much problem with that, but trust me it's very linear.

The demo was actually the first few minutes of the actual game. As you progress there is a variety of different areas and sometimes that strafing just doesn't work. Especially with some of the other enemies you meet. I find that you generally just have to take damage as often there isn't a way to avoid it.

--

I've been playing it for roughly 5 hrs now so probably nearing the end. I am largely enjoying my time in this game. Load times are long but they are hidden with the comic book style story loading screen, which easily takes twice the time it takes to load. Graphically wise I think it looks fantastic! The dx11 lighting effects are well done and really help set the mood, especially since it's all done at night. The engine is really well optimized and the game just runs silky smooth all of the time, I'd love to see some other game use this.

As I said above it is extremely linear, but thats also the style of this game and it works. Enemies can be rewardingly challenging as well as often they require some effort in order to take them all down. Get boxed into a corner and you'll die rather quickly. As you progress and level up your abilities to contain this increase so where I am at the moment it's not to bad.

I really like the artwork and sound, and the little posters planted around are amusing as well

If your at all interested in this style of gameplay then go ahead and get it, I doubt you'll be disappointed. For others just mildly interested I say wait on a sale, it's definitely worth 10-15.
