Hardcore gamer...

I'm a hardcore gamer and that is it. Gaming is my life and is my work. I learn to program games and how to have fun with games. The reason I post this is that I've lost mostly all my friends because they never know what I'm talking about with games and they prefer to have a social life instead. Most of them and probably people in general only see games as a quick leisure while I'm working with them or playing them 24/7. So answer me this, do I not have a "life"? So it's okay for a guy to be into nothing but sports and is accepted by society but if a kid wants to be into nothing but computer games, they're given a hassle. I've never had a girlfriend and needless to say I don't desire one simply because I haven't found one that is intelligent, deep, interesting and good looking. They're all obsessed with other people's lives and their appearance, that's it. So give me some feedback here, I'm desperate to know if I've been wrong all this time.

I enjoy gaming, but too much of anything is no good. That much gaming simply cannot be healthy for you. If you do game 24/7 as you say, I think you need to stop and smell the roses, realize that there are other important things out there.

"TOO MUCH" of anything is bad. if it was right amount, it would not be "Too Much".

Well I can live without games for months. But then when a new Zelda is out, I spend 1 or 2 weeks doing nothing but playing Zelda.

I can't imagine playing video games 24/7 every single damn day

MrElusive: While you are doing what you love to do, playing video games 24/7 may not be an act of loving yourself. If you love yourself, do yourself a favour and go out once in a while. Take a nice walk. Breathe in some fresh air. And do some exercise once in a while.

I don't agree that you should be more "social" just because your friends say you should, but did you consider taking care of yourself a bit more? It simply doesn't sound right to game (whether for work or leisure) for that long everyday.

In my youth I used to MUD for 6+ hours a day, and looking back on that now I think that was pretty nutty. I also enjoyed doing playing more when I moderated it with other activities - nothing beats taking the bike out down some paved paths around these parts; the girls are wearing shorts and skirts again, you know.

There also have been studies that show that the more fit you are muscularly, the better your mental concentration becomes. I think the study I read involved chess players who worked out to keep their bodies as capable as their minds, but there's also stuff out there written by Thresh on the topic.

So really, if you aspire to be the ubergamer - you need to work your body by getting your ass out there. In the end you'll enjoy life more.

There is a girl that i've known for a few years but never really talked to. Well we were assigned a project together and have talked and we really clicked. She is very pretty, smart, and deep, not to mention she thinks i'm a genius and funny. I finally found my perfect date to the senior prom, a girl I don't mind spending (actually would like to) $350 on. .

Well I'm 16 and yes this is what I love and it is the only leisure that takes my mind off of stresses like women. I'm not good with girls period. I douse my drawers in the sight of fear as Kevin Smith would say it. I just haven't found a legit reason to talk to them. I'm not gonna talk to them to get into their pants because I'm not like that. I wouldn't use a chick just for her body, it's rather sinful and I do contain morals. It's a fact I'm very depressed that I'm not like other teenagers and outgoing but then I rejoice in seeing that I am a gamer and I am into a carreer that isn't full of impure, unintelligent a$$holes. If you say you're in the computer industry usually someone thinks "Wow, he must be smart" but if you walk up to someone and say you're in the food industry or something they'll think "Eh, he could be worse". This is a really bad example but it's the only thing that gives me a grip on my sanity. Being into computers and gaming gives me the oppurtunity to meet, kind, good-hearted people like me. I've never talked to a dick who's a hardcore gamer or computer genius. Well anyway, thanx for all the replies, good to hear from other people like me. Well if your life revolves around games do you think you'll ever find a girl, get married, have kids, stay active, have friends, and get anything rewarding out of life? Playing games and living and breathing games is a pathetic and sad existence.

Now granted I play many many hours a week (normally) of video games but they are not my priority and I'm sure to incorporate more into my life than the next level.

btW you're 16 so probably want a little play now. You should start working out as at least something else to do in your free time.
