Harddrive for my running system question

hey, i am probably going to get a WD 8mb cache 40gig 7200 rpm, or a Maxtor 8mb cache 40 gig 7200rpm for my computer

i was wondering is it compatable with what im runnning right now

Anthlon Xp 1700+ 1.47ghz
256mb pc100 DDR
Vantec Aeroflow - heat shink and fan
Ati Radeon 7k 62 meg
