Well im new to these forums and im just starting to get into computer building and all that good stuff. I just got done building my first rig and it runs great. I have a quick question that i was wondering about though. Whats the difference between Serial ATA and SATAII? Im using Serial ATA now and it uses a SATA connector so im kinda confused. Help me out please. Thanks!

The fact that you built your own computer and cant answer this question greatly disturbs me .. :Q

SATA is the TYPE of cable, SATAII is the SPEC
EIDE is to SATA as ATA/100 is to SATAII

Hi, A little more explanation. IDE is parallel. Transfers a byte (8 bits) at the time. Speed is rated in BPS (Bytes per second). Sata is serial. Transfers one bit at the time. Rated in bps (bits per second). Takes 8 bits to make a byte. Divide by 8 to compare speeds. Hope this helps a little, Jim

Fixed..IDE is integrated drive electronics, both PATA and SATA drives are IDE..

Hi, Steve is correct, but the point was that data transfer is Parallel to Standard IDE and Serial to SATA drives. The interface is the difference. In addition the stated speeds are for the transfer of data between the system and the drive. Actual throughput is mostly determined by the speed of the drive. Jim
