Intermediate micro can be really interesting, really easy, or really fvcking hard, depending on who's teaching it.

<-- Math Major

I took a class on Abstract Algebra...that wasn't exactly easy but it was fun
I also took another one on ordinary diff eq (not your normal diff eq) and that just plane sucked...but managed to pull a B somewhow
By Far the hardest was Analysis of Calculus 2...AOC1 was interesting and fun cause it was proving why algebra and calculus kinda works in 2d...AOC 2 was proving why it works in any sort of dimensional space.
Considering going back for doctorate but i jsut dont feel like spending a few years proving some outlandish idea...

Sadly now i couldn't tell you how to solve simple addition problems but ask me to prove why 1+1 = 2 and i'm golden

integrate by parts

No, you don't need integration by parts. Try a regular u substitution with u=2x+1.

-Tom

That will work only if you know that the integral of ln(x)= x*ln(x)-x

Well, I knew that

-Tom
How does that work?

S ln (2x+1) dx

u=2x+1
du=2 dx
1/2 du=dx

1/2 S ln u du
=1/2(u ln u - u) + C
=1/2[(2x+1)ln(2x+1) - 2x+1] + C

How do you go from there to get the same final answer?

Currently in Engineering math (class offered at my university that takes the most relevant material from diff eq and linear algebra for engineers, cal 2 is a pre req but they recommend having done cal 3)

That's the same answer.

Take your pick....
Numerical Analysis
Advanced Calc
Abstract Algebra
Proofs

None of them too fun.....

how come i dont see any engineering math listed?

Stochastic Processes in Engineering
Linear Systems Theory
Signals and Transforms
System Optimization
Nonlinear Systems
Adaptive Filtering

Good thing only a handful of them are required to graduate.

wow those posting algebra.

I bombed in a calc2 class and discreet, mostly due to lameass teachers and my maybe lazy style.

Pop quizzes just teach you who the lamers are in class.

didn't take Calc3, but took Matrix Theory instead (cool math). I don't know where linear algebra falls into place...

I am a comp sci BS holder, and 3 classes short of a bio/chemistry/micro/zoo-logy degree that I never took

Now all this said...I was a poor student in my opinion. I didn't study...I was late a lot...never did homework. However, I did think a lot about the things I heard. I look at study a lot differently than thinking...and then doing.

However, even in my 30's now I can pull out stuff I learned to do things I don't really have the tools or measuring devices for.

Probability. Goo! Not as easy as you might think going into the class. I did well in calc 1 & 2, multivariable calc, linear algebra, and differential equations, but the B- in Probability pissed me off.

Anyone saying Algebra or Geometry, you're an idiot.

Calc 2 was pretty hard. Sequences, Series, etc. were a PITA.

I took pre-calc in high school and tested out of basic math for college. I had to take 3 math classes for my major (elementary education), but they were more about the whys than the hows of math. So pre-calc was probably my hardest math class, but I didn't think it was that hard at the time. There's no way I would be able to do the math that I did then right now, though.

Calc2 was a PITA. Diff and Analytical wasn't too bad. At least I understood it those! Hated Cal 2.. multiple variable integration.

Calc 2 only because the teacher was a retard and tenured! After that it was a breeze, combinatorics, calc-based prob & stats, diff eq's...

Calc 3, then Linear Algebra and Differential Equations; similar level I believe.

EDIT:

Oh HARDEST.... probably Calc 1; I was just glad when we stopped needing to do the whole limit thing for every derivative and just learned the canned formula. If they just told you d/dy(x^2) = 2x, you could just skip the whole calc 1 thing.

Ok, not really, but for some reason I didn't like the math involved there. It seemed like black magic or something. Calc 2 was a breeze though.
