And he said something like AMD should do something about their CPUs being so fragile. The last time he destroyed one by not noticing that the feet on his alpha combined with the feet on the chip meant that the core didnt contact. All i can say is that Kyle is a friggin retarded moron. If i ever had a kid that was as dumb as kyle man, i'd be crying. Really its not AMDs fault that he's that careless.

hahahahaha what a tool........

<< They day here has sucked ass. I watched ANOTHER 1.2 GHz Athlon burn before my very eyes. I was running some heatsink tests with a special setup that had a layer of insulation between the CPU and ceramic of the heatsink when the clip popped off. I had the core up to well over 150ºF for about 2 minutes (burning in the TIM), when SPRING! The damn clip JUST POPPED OFF. Now this is 100% my own fault since it is apparent I did not have it clipped properly, but just to see it happen before your very eyes like that was freaky. It went, SPRING, BLUE SCREEN, BLUE SMOKE, all in about 2 seconds, before I could get to the power. What a damn bummer. AMD needs to learn a lesson from Intel on this and do something to remedy this, it is just ridiculous that their cores are that fragile. Just my opinion. >>

If he admits it was 100% his fault why in the world is he commenting about amd cores being fragile?

I think what he means is that they should have a built in sensor which would shut them off if they risked getting too hot

With all the review & tests with heatsinks & cpu's he should know how to attach a heatsink by now.

Some people should not be allowed near an Athlon.

Kyles always been a pr|ck. Well online at least.

I have no idea how his site got popular. Sure the content is good, but the commentary is terrible.

BTW whats with Kyle and that Hypothermia guy they best friends or something? They seem to link to each others site like theres no tomorrow.

HardOCP is a decent site, I visit them occasionally, and the content makes up for the usually lacking 'commentary'.

Can a built in sensor really shut down a system in under 2 seconds? I don't know if the P4 could survive the heatsink falling off. Of course the P4 does have the special heatsink retention system. I bet it's pretty Kyle proof.

wonder if that cpu was "donated" to Kyle in the first instance!

Leaps to Kyle's defence:

I think HOCP is a great site. I just love the man's perverse sense of humor, and the good news & gossip. He's even eloquent, in a "diamond-in-the-rough" kind of way.

Oh yeah, the 'bird. Musta bin a defective clip. Couldn't ha' bin the man's fault.

And you can't put square brackets around the "H" in a post - everything from there on will get highlighted!

given that kyle can be a bumbling fool in the way he handles his to-be-keychains, i think AMD needs to really do something about the top of the core just evaporating when it isn't in contact with a heatsink for a couple of seconds. they could hardwire the chip to shutdown if it reaches a critical temperature i think, and that would probably save many cpus in the long run.

I actually think Kyle's a good guy. I look at it this way: Anyone that's got the guts to risk making himself look like a fool for blowing yet another T-bird out, has got..yes..as I said. Guts. His retarded sense of humor is nice too.

heh i like hardocp, atleast he admits he was bein dumb. also, he has a point, i love amd and i think they really have intel beat in pretty much everything except that. The intel chips are a lot harder to kill than an athlon/duron core, but from what ive been readin on their site its soon to change

Yeah let's not beat up on Kyle. Face it, too many tech sites are dry and boring. I think only a very few sites actually serve the dumbass overclocker like most of us in here are. HardOCP is one of them. And frankly, I use it just as much for a good index of news and articles as for the content (HOCP reviews, guides, etc.). As if there aren't a billion posts in the OC'ing forum about some poor jerk killing his brand new cpu.

heh, I personally will be extremely scared when I build my Duron.. I have to be extremely careful putting a Heatsink on, if it means placing as much force on the CPU as it does with my FOP-32..

but rest assured, I won't let it pop off! it won't overheat, if I make a mistake, it's going to get crushed, not left to burn up!

Well, had I been using AMD chips, the same thing would have happened to me many times. Do this with an Intell chip and it won't boot. Do this with an AMD chip, and it fries. Easy to see how that might make someone wish AMD could add the same sort of thermal protection.

I've known 2 peeps (I swear that I wasn't one of them ) that have blown Tbirds in similar ways. One left the plastic pull strip on over the thermal goo and the other incorrectly mounted the HSF. Although these were both 1d10t errors, I've done the first thing with a celeron2 and it took me 2 crashes before I figured out my dumbness. The chip still works though. I personally feel that the Tbirds are a bit too delicate to this, but I still buy em.

I think {H}ardOCP is a great site, with good, quick commentary (although I rarely read the articles). His sense of humor is a great bonus in a comp review world full of dry Dr. Tom's. Personally, I check his site more often (much more) than I check the front page of Anandtech, but I don't post in the {H}ardForums as much because the people here are more knowledgable (and the forum software is 100x better). Anyway, that's my 2 cents on {H}ardOCP!

BTW, Kyle does burn up more chips than anyone I've evert heard of! It must be his way of handling them or something.

LOL, Kyle certainly takes no pity on those Tbirds, destroying them left and right.

"BTW whats with Kyle and that Hypothermia guy they best friends or something? They seem to link to each others site like theres no tomorrow."

Steve from Hypothermia also works on the HardOCP site. If you check the news posted, I'm sure you will see some that is posted by Steve. Although, Kyle does do most of it.

I would think that a temperature sensor could be placed in/on the chip that could cause the cpu to shut down if the temperature gets too high, personally. This would "fix" the problem of destroy good cpu chips.

Didn't/doesn't Intel chips have some sort of safety feature?

I like HOCP too.. I think it's good, and it's unique unlike most other hardware sites on the web, another thing is there is at least 1 or 2 posts a day on it with new articles, you can go eat dinner, come back and more new reading material, another large bonus to reading HOCP!

Kyle: we love you buddy!

I know some motherboards (ie: BX-133) have a built in shutdown if your CPU reaches a certain temp.

Maybe he should invest in one of these. Might save him some sorrow.
