Hardrive Problems

I have no idea what the hell is going on, so my screen would turn black after the windows xp logo, so i reformatted it, and it works fine, and the partition shows up on ubuntu, but when i stuck my other hardrives in, ubuntu cannot read the main partition (even though its on the same hardrive, different partition) and it can read my other hardrives fine, but the windows partition, after the windows xp logo, it turns black again.

Have you waited for it to load? Do you get a 'no signal' when the screen goes black or is the system doing something? When I put my age old 80GB Maxtor in my system, the boot sequence took about 14 minutes more than it does without that HDD. Lots of black screen during that time. So obviously I don't have it in my system anymore. It was a bad HDD anyhow, making some nasty noises and being extremely slow at everything.

hmm maybe ill leave it on, i left it on for about 40 mins, nothing happened, but ubuntu detects it fine
