Well it's good to know that you got it working and you're happy with the results - but just so you know:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVideo_HD#PureVideo_HD

The 7 series cards by nVidia did not support VP3 which is probably why your CPU usage was still high. Proper implementation - or a card that supported VP3 - would give you under 20% CPU usage.

Apologies again for resurrecting the dead - glad you got it sorted out - hopefully the additional information posted will help others searching to get this issue resolved in future.

Bear in mind that there are different video profiles for HD video and if your card does not support decoding that specific profile then you will not be able to benefit from hardware decoding.

Thanks again to all for enduring and I'll be browsing around the rest of the forum to check if something else piques my interest.

While we're on this topic, my laptop has an 8400m gs that's been completely unable to use hardware decoding. I've tried every method and codec that supports dxva and they always fall back to regular decoding. Even if I block all the codecs except the dxva one mpc-hc will just not show any video. The same videos all decode perfectly on my 3450 in my htpc, 8800gt and 4890 in my desktops. Everything I've read showed the 8400 perfectly capable of hardware decoding h264 and I've tried several different drivers. Any Ideas?

I used VC1 because that is what the card supported... If I were to use my current card I can do what you suggest

I'd suggest creating a new thread so people can comment to your post and not to my ancient one. You did provide info that some may find useful

Good suggestion. If a mod will split the topic then we can prolly move from there as well - anyways. The profile used for encoding will determine what you need to decode - so if your video was VC1 and you were getting 80% then there was some problem. If your video was VC2 or VC3 and your card only supported VC1 then 80% would be ok.

Will take this and throw into another thread so we can discuss.
