Hello,

I recently bought notebook ASUS X551CA. I'm already used on using SSD in my desktop PC, so overload HDD in notebook realy get on my nerves sometimes. So I'm concidering of upgrading it to SSD, but I don't know if my motherboard in notebook support SATA3 6Gbs to use SSD. Of course I can use SSD even on SATA2 with 3Gbs speed, but it won't be effective as on 6Gbs.
So I would like to ask if there is any kind of software avalible to check that, since I already tried to google for that motherboard and no resaults.

Best Regards,
Simon

Tried to look at the documentation for your notebook and could not determine if you can use an SSD, feel pretty sure you can. What I would do, is go to Crucial, download their interactive tool, let them read yr system, and see which of their drives they suggest for it as upgrades. If, among those, there is an SSD, then, you will know a great deal more.

so I downloaded that Crucial software to help me with upgrades.
I have SATA3 6Gb/s so SSD are avalible for me.

But it also recomended me for RAM 2x8GB ... I never opened my notebook, but when I bough it, there was no notice that there is 1 free slot for RAM. Does that software detect ram slots 100% correctly?

Excellent!

I think the Crucial app is very reliable. But, I would also check yr documentation just cause you should have it. If not, go to the notebook's site and see if you can download it in PDF. But again, in my experience, the Crucial app has always been reliable! After all, their rep and business success depends on that. And, as you have seen, they do guarantee compatibility.

I can just imagine what that ram goes for, tho, to bring U up to 16GBs. Remember, ram comes in different configurations.

With this new/used system I am on, Crucial, cause it is possible, recommended a new ram package to bring the system up to the 32 GBs of DDR3 this board can handle. It was a fortune, and I do not need beyond the 8 I now have. So first determine what you NEED. Always good to know what is possible, but, what you need is the bottom line.

I know everything about RAM, and I didn't wanted to upgrade on 16GB or even 32GB hehe
But 6 or 8GB wouldn't be soo bad to have even on my kinda slow notebook.

However, I managed to get in touch with ASUS and got information that my notebook have only 1 slot, even if Crucial detected 2 free slots. So I emailed to Crucial and let them know about that, so they can fix that and avoid future problems with clients

Well, I am heartened and impressed you followed up with ASUS....and even more, then with Crucial.

This is why I encouraged you to check out yr documentation carefully.

But now, I am taken aback at any notebook or lappy having only one RAM slot! I never heard of that.....plus, it means more money if you wanna upgrade RAM. PLUS, I am not clear what yr board maxes out at, cause does one stick of 32GBs even exist???

I would so find yr user's manual.....and then see if you can download the shop manual! Sumthin not entirely computing here, pun intended.

Tell me, has ASUS outsourced its support?

Edit:

OMG, Asus site and support pathetic, and, I just learned, common knowledge their documentation is ABYSMAL! See, Dell keeps everything on their site forever......for almost every system they have ever made.
I would never buy a system without first looking thru its shop manual.

I would never buy anything I could not get proper documentation for before I chose it! I am disgusted re the reality re ASUS. I mean it.

Now, someone posted re another lappy of theirs, still can't find proper, normal documentation for yours....or any, for that matter, he knows there is one ram slot under the KB and another on the back of his unit.

You might check yours with this odd thing in mind.

Did U get the badge number of this ostensible ASUS pundit?:sneaky:

Cause I am not totally trusting this human yet.

They're just trying to sell you more ram. You don't need any particular amount to have an ssd. That doesn't even make sense. To see how many sockets you have, search on the web, or just open it up and look.

I addressed, learn what is possible and then determine what you NEED to the OP, Simon.....early on.

And forgive me, you are being cavalier re just search the web. YOU try it with this laptop.....or anything ASUS.

I DID, so, I KNOW.
