Hello.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and added aftermarket cooling. I had several problems during this process. I replaced the aftermarket cooling with the stock cooling because of malfunctions.To make a long story short my computer has trouble booting.

I receive the errors;

1)hdd not detected ctrl-alt-delete to restart
2) A black screen. Monitor is on, but no video from Windows 10.

I never receive them at the same time. I would say every 3 boots I have one error or the other. I tried re-seating the cables and switching them with different cables. That didn't fix the video or the hdd not detected. I could buy new cables and try a third time as my cables are several years old. My video card is about 5 years old and has received heavy usage over that time.

Can anyone pinpoint what could cause these problems? I will have to rebuild my pc if I cant pinpoint a single problem.

Make sure your bios battery isn't dying (cheap fix).

Trying different cables is another cheap fix.

Having the boot drive in SATA port 0 is an easy way to preserve boot order when changing cables, etc.

When it does boot run a program like Seatools (and I would recommend that one) and make sure the drive is showing good health and passing tests.

Thanks. I'm not positive the boot drive is in port 0. I ran hdd , memory, and cpu tests. They didn't turn anything up. I'll probably rebuild my pc if the problem worsens. My Son has a pc with a better videocard and I have his less used videocard (lives with his Mom and plays xbox mostly) in storage (same exact card). The Displayport doesnt work well with the adapter and HDMI cable in the video card in place (going into TV) as well. So the old card may be collecting dust in the connectors. That could be the problem with the picture. I'll try Seatools if the problem worsens. Digging out replacement or buying replacement cables is a pain. Once again thanks. Seatools may turn something up.

When I first bought my board it would not boot with XMP enabled. The SSD would not appear in the bios/uefi. Cant really remember how I fixed it, I swear I just enabled XMP for like the 4th time and it never happened again.
