hardwood floor lamenent or re-carpet?

I am looking for advice on whether or not to replace carpet in 2 rooms with new carpet or with some sort of hardwood floor thing. the total area is about 350 sq. feet.

anyone out there have any experience with this type of flooring? I am wondering if it is even worth considering... I don't mind spending some extra money as long as its feasible for me to install it myself and not that expensive.
The materials seem reasonable as long as I don't have to lay out big money for substrait or tools.

any thoughts?

What are the room dimensions? Sometimes if the room is wider than 13 feet it's cheaper to lay down a laminate flooring as carpet comes in 12" wide rolls.

I'm no handyman so I hired someone to remove the carpet in 4 rooms and install hardwood oak floors. If you have it finished with GLITSA all you have to do is wipe with a sponge and 10% vinegar.

Don't think I would ever attempt this myself as I'd have to live with it forever.

Carpet is another thing I'd never tackle(again). If you had someone cut it and showed you how to install it, it might be OK, but to cut it yourself never seems to work for me.

Hardwood floors with oriental throw / area rugs is really nice and will increase the value of your property.

Good luck in whatever you choose!

Carpet is always the least expensive and easy to do yourself as long as there are no seams involved. You will have to rent some tools specifically a Knee kicker this is what you use to stretch the rug, and a stair tool to crease and tuck the carpet. If there is a seam to be done you might want to consider a professional installation.(more tools to rent like a iron, tractor, top cutter, and needs a little more experience to do properly.)
You can install a laminate floor for half the price if you have the time. Bottom line is get a look into how things are done and see if you have the warewithall to try it yourself. If you get gunshy a mechanic will knock in the 2 rooms in a couple of hours (carpet) 1 day (laminate)
Prices $4.00/yrd Carpet $1.00/ft Tile (vinyl)
$3.00/ft Laminate $1.50/ft Floor Prep
Don't forget to consider delivery and carrying these materials they are quite heavy and awkward.

I got rid of my carpet a couple of years ago. I put down Armstrong peel and stick tiles. My house is 1300 sq. and it took all of three weeks to do it. Spent a lot of time in prep on the concrete. I love it. The house feels much cooler in the summer. Noise travels everywhere but you get used to it. I just got used to wearing slippers in the winter. The house seems cleaner also. The tile holds up very well except where my computer chair has remove the shiny layer. This has not happened where my wifes computer chair is. I weigh 260, must not be rated for that much abuse.

Carpet is cheaper than hardwood floor, but it is dusty.

You could try call around to see if you can get hardwood flooring from builder (extra left over).

My sister & her husband replaced their 350 sq feet living room with pre finish Maple for $900.00CAD ($580.00USD), and it took them 2 days to do it for a couple of every little or no skill in wood working.

Main reason NOT to get laminate (Pergo) floors - especially the dark colors - they scratch rather easily if you have pets, and can be difficult to spot-repair. Just something to keep in mind

first off what rooms are you redoing???
both are easy to install I have done both my self.
with carpet rent the tools you will need like a kicker and a edge knife and something to tuck the carpet.
As far as seems go buy a carpet that seems easy (not berber)and has no pattern to it.

wood flooring
buy a wood laminate flooring that has a wear layer like 3/16" NOT printed paper.
lay down some foam or kraft paper and install flooring.
most wd flooors now SNAP together and some need glue.
full wood flooring you have to rent a nailer and miter saw, lay out the floor and nail away.

Also rember if you go with full wood flooring there is a height difference.
if you need any more info PM me or post here.
also is this going over concrete??
