Scalia is actually quite smart and is probably one of the funniest Justices on the Supreme Court. Rarely will you ever read a Supreme Court decision and laugh, but his tend to be quite amusing, while still being quite salient. Except on issues of abortion, then he gets quite serious.

As for Miers comments, well, I think we would be better off with a new pick.

In all fairness, Jimmy Carter was a nuclear (not "nucular") physicist, has written 19 books and been selected as University Distinguished Professor at Emory University, and won the Nobel Peace Prize. He was a really, really crappy President, but he's a brilliant man.
