I agree.

Was a good read but would have like a little more on the closure.

Yeah, for the end of a series, I would have liked more, but I guess thats what the encyclopedia is for.

she did a question and answer about what happens after the book...giving more answers

The scene at the end of the battle in the Great Hall. Harry and Voldemort have just cast their spells (Avada Kedavra - Expelliarmus). Voldemort is falling backwards, Harry is reaching out to catch Voldemort's wand.

I didn't read anything in this thread so this might have already been answered.

Anyone want to explain how Neville ended up with the Gryffindor sword? Unless I missed something I thought the goblin had it after they robbed the bank.

Good question. That plot twist was completely unexplained and surprising!

Yeah, that kind of irked me too. It was as if Rowlings decided to rush the ending.

The Sorting Hat belonged to Godric Gryffindor, and it has the ability to summon the sword when a true Gryffindor requires it. This was how Harry obtained the same sword in Chamber of Secrets to kill the basilisk. Voldemort had placed the sorting hat on Neville, and set the hat on fire.

Simply put, he summoned it through the hat. It's magic!

1)How do you know the sorting hat was voldemorts?

2)what profession were harrys parents?

3)how the hell did dumbledor win an undefeatable wand from grindelwald?

4)since when do spells that collide actually work? and how come harry was dead and disarmed too?

5)How come the accounts JK gave after the book in interviews on cnn and nbc are diff? for example...she said neville and luna could get together...wtf...didnt luna and dean become boyfriend and girlfriend at the end of the book?

it wasn't, it was Godric Gryffindor's

2)what profession were harrys parents?
not sure that was ever revealed was it?

3)how the hell did dumbledor win an undefeatable wand from grindelwald?
he dueled him and won. the wand isn't quite undefeatable.

4)since when do spells that collide actually work? and how come harry was dead and disarmed too?
no answer to the 1st question. harry was never dead or disarmed.

5)How come the accounts JK gave after the book in interviews on cnn and nbc are diff? for example...she said neville and luna could get together...wtf...didnt neville and dean become boyfriend and girlfriend at the end of the book?

I don't recall Neville hooking up with anyone (and as already stated, Dean is a guy). Luna married some dude who wrote about hard to find magical animals.

1. The Sorting Hat was not Voldemort's, it belonged to Godric Gryffindor, one of the founders of Hogwarts. This is explained in one of the sortings, I believe, when the hat sings its traditional preamble. Don't remember which book.

2. Rowling has never mentioned the occupations of Harry's parents.

3. This is a good question, and I thought it too. I'd like to hear Rowling's answer to that. I'm assuming that, even though Grindelwald had the Elder Wand, Dumbledore was just a much more accomplished wizard.

4. I'm assuming you meant to say "And how come Voldemort was dead and disarmed too".
Voldemort assumed the Elder Wand had "chosen" him, by killing Snape, he thought it made him the new master of the wand. In reality, Snape never actually "won" the wand from Dumbledore, because Dumbledore was disarmed already when Snape killed him. It was Draco Malfoy who disarmed Dumbledore at the top of the tower, and so Draco was the new master of the wand. In the Room of Requirement, Harry disarms Malfoy of his own wand, and in doing so, Harry claims true power over the Elder Wand. Confusing and a bit of a stretch, I know, but "the wand chooses the wizard." Since Voldemort cast the Avada Kedavra curse at Harry with the Elder Wand, the curse rebounded back upon Voldemort, because the wand would not kill its true master. Harry's Expelliarmus spell then disarmed Voldemort of the wand, and Harry caught it.

5. Dean and Neville are both male. Rowling may have thought at one time about having Luna get with Neville, but apparently Luna ends up marrying Rolf Scamander, related to Newt Scamander.

I don't know if someone has already corrected you or not since I didn't read the whole thread, but Snape was the headmaster during the whole book. So nearly a whole year. Didn't last very long, but he was certainly headmaster.

You know he is talking about Snape because his son was named Albus Severus for two headmasters.

When he disarmed Dumbledore possession of the wand transferred to Draco.

It was the first thing that happened. Dumbledore and Harry landed on the tower, Harry was under the Invisibility cloak. Dumbledore knew people were coming up to meet them, just as the door to the tower burst open, Dumbledore forfeited the chance to defend himself and instead cast a body-bind spell on Harry, keeping him out of harm's way. Just after that, Draco disarmed Dumbledore.

Most of this had been planned by Dumbledore, the only thing he hadn't planned on was Draco disarming him and earning the wand instead of Snape.

How did Severus Snape find them to give them the sword? Of all the lakes in the world he could have thrown the sword into, how did he know to pick that one?

The guy in the picture frame heard Hermione mention the woods they were in.

Snape actually turned out to be one of my favorite characters.

Ya its in one of the last chapters when you get to see Snapes memories, I think you see him talking to the painting and then he takes the sword out from behind Dumbeldors painting.

Snape was always one of my favorite characters, right from the beggining.

I just gotta say that Snape has to be one of my favorite characters in the book. To think he lived all of Harry's life dedicated to protecting him out of love for his Lilly.

Nice twist, and I was actually sad after he died.

He was always one of my favorite characters, having Alan Rickman play him in the movies helped that too. Everyone always thought Snape was the bad guy, especially after the 6th book, but I knew there was more to the story and this last book proved it.

After Book 6 I think it was quite obvious he WASN'T the bad guy. I mean it's easy to say "zomg he killed dumbledore" but JK Rowling doesn't conceal things that well. It's either bloody obvious to you or there aren't any clues period (and she doesn't try to mislead either). Anyways... yea. It was nice seeing how Harry said Snape was one of the bravest headmasters at Hogwarts? At least Snape got some recognition...
