Has a game intruded in real life on occasion for you?

Been playing so much Oblivion the last 4 years that, occasionally, when I'm on the bus, I find myself assessing other passengers with the face-generating menu in mind - eyes far apart, forehead ratio, sellion, cheeks low/high, mouth drawn/pursed, etc... - as I quickly glance at them. :whiste: Happened this afternoon.

If I play too much of a word or puzzle game, I start imagining and solving puzzles in my head. Often when I'm trying to sleep.

The other thing is a little more subtle but very weird. You know how a lot of RPGs have multiple paths, but only one "right" path? And the wrong path will often lead you to a small room with loot in it. Anyway, I've gotten so in the habit of purposely taking the "wrong" path so I can get all the loot before moving on that it has, on occasion, affected my thinking. As in, I have sometimes jumped to the least likely conclusion instead of the most likely one.

It doesn't happen all the time but I've noticed it two or three times since playing Mass Effect.

How could you possibly want to play oblivion for 4 years? That game got old after a few hours.

Not so much in real life.. but I know when I've been playing a game way too much when I start having dreams about it. When I was really into Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead.. I had some scary messed up dreams. BFBC2 and Fallout:NV has influenced some dreams lately.

When seeing cloth with some patterns on it that are repeating, I think how to move them around to make a 3/4/5 to clear a line... I'm a Bejeweled addict *sigh*

When I played Eve alot, I would have dreams that incorporated things about it. Like once I remember having a dream of standing on the sidewalk of my childhood home, and off in the distance, I could see 2 red crosses moving across they sky and I was like, OMG Dread!

totally agree...how can you not have finished in that amount of time too?

Of course I finished it. For me, the main quest in such an open world is a minor point. Finding new places to loot and foes to vainquish, that is the main point. Been exploring thoroughly since and replayed with various race/classes/birth signs. Heck, just walking around and admiring the modded landscapes is fun.

I agree. It was a really, really cool game as far as the world was concerned. I just wish they had made the dungeons and gates different for each one, but I think there are mods for that. Great game!

I spent 300 hours on Oblivion with mods and the Shivering Isles.

For some folks, its not all about power leveling and running through missions as fast as possible. It's about exploring, enjoying the atmosphere and the world, and just seeing what the game has to offer.

Half Life 2
AvP1/2/2010 (in certain areas, Alien usually)
Stalker SoC
Crysis (Lift sequence and subsequent Alien Ship areas)
Any FPS which involves a lot of fast moving in narrow/confined areas (ie. Crysis ship levels)

All make me motion sick. They give me the worst headache with vertigo and can do so within 10 minutes and I have never found out why. This hit me at 18/19 with HL2 yet I used to play Quake 1/2/3, CS and HL competitively on a LAN when I was 11-16 against adult opponents and never had the glimmer of an issue.

Homeworld

Every time I hear Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber there is an instant sadness and chill going up my spine. Everyone who is anyone remembers Mission 3.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Not only was is a great RTS (my fave until probably DoW or CoH, HW was close) but it helped me form a decent Russian accent, or at least I think it's pretty good. Just needs practice

A-Train

This game was phenomenal. Similar to Sim City but focused more on train infrastructure and building of amenities. When asked in class aged maybe 7 what buildings you'd find in a city, I suggested a Lease Building and was told my suggestion was incorrect. I was kinda like 'What? It's in A-Train so it's got to be a real building".

There was a comment I did once, when seeing a lake view. We were on a trip with some friends and I said "wow, the water looks just like in FarCry". Most of them are gamers so it was a good laugh and we still remember that day, also thanks to my comment

Every time I go to Bush airport in Houston, I think about Half-Life 2 - due to the announcement system telling people what to watch out for. All they need is a projection screen and a guy with a beard to make the feeling complete.

UO influenced my life a ton. I took two vacations because of it. >_> Selling gold and items on ebay was great!

I have said "lawl" on occasion though.

I saw a sparrow on the ground once before. Thought of killing it and getting the feathers. Needed them for my UO character I thought.

At least you didn't go mining to build your strength.
No worries, I already maxed my strength and intelligence. Who needs dexterity these days, there are no undead liches walking around. But if there were, I'd definitely knock my head a few times to max that out. 300 gold coins for two maybe three swings of a sword is nothing to sneeze at, especially with today's gold prices. You even get bags full of stinky reagents, like black pearls and nightshade, great for making high energy soup.

Then again, I always was more of an entrepreneur of acquisition, achieved through my tongue and music...

Man, that game was amazing. Other than Rainbow Six, FarCry was the first shooter I played, and I played the hell out of it. I'll never forget getting my 6600gt to replace my FX5200. It was an AMAZING difference.

How many new characters do you have to make before you brain starts processing faces like that?
