"You must make 120 on-time, full, scheduled, monthly payments on your Direct Loans. Only payments made after October 1, 2007 qualify."

So you have to pay 120 payments. That is 10 years of ontime payments. Damn son how much money do you owe? I would think that you would be able to pay your loan off in 10 years.

Also that means your stuck in that job for 10 years right?

My school loans amounted to 120k. Im doing the 25 year plan. I graduated 04, so the rate I got is super low ( 1.75% ). But getting rid of that $550 monthly payment would be nice. I would probably buy a BMW M3 with the money I save.

If you can afford a BMW with your savings then let me join in and say pay your debts.

(however if it were me then I would apply for it as well)

Damn you government for wasting my tax dollars!!!!

My wife is also a pharmacist and works for a non-profit hospital. We've investigated this too and cannot get an answer. She will be hitting the 10 year mark in 2015.

She had $92,000 in loans and went the fixed 30 year route.

This...so much this.

You borrowed the money. No one forced you to take out $120K in student loans...pay it back.

because I already paid it back by serving my community at a non-profit hospital.

Now give me my M3

I've seen this, and I don't qualify even though I work for a community program that services developmentally delayed children.

Thank you for working in the inner city. We need more people like you there.

The program's there to encourage people to work in places that educated people don't want to work. The only difference is that you're going to work there with or without the program.

My cousin did the some thing. Chose to teach for LA Unified. He quit after there was a shooting outside the school. He didn't feel safe.

25 years? Wow. It's like paying house note without having a house. I'm so thankful my parents paid for my school. I will do the same for my daughter.

"The application is under development and will be available prior to the date when the first borrowers will be eligible for PSLF Program forgiveness, in October 2017."

You've got four years before ANYONE is eligible for the program, so I guess you'll have some time to shop around for your M3.

You haven't served the community, you have served people that have to go to non profit hospitals. The lives you have saved are probably costing the tax payer even more as we speak.

Pay your debts.

besides you don't want an M3 it will make you look like a dick.

When you:

a) pay more in federal taxes than many people earn a year
b) get your 401k gimped due to being a high income earner and can only put 12k a year in
c) can't make it up in a roth IRA because you are phased out of that due to income
d) can't claim interest on your loans to help lower your AIG
e) don't get to claim the credits for having kids
.....
I'm going to take advantage of any handout or credit I can. Consider it a payback for paying in for so long and getting nothing in return.

For anyone that opposes this, did you take the tax credit for your kids?

Tbh if you have kids you need to pay their schooling. Fully. You can't complain about not getting a credit while your child's schooling probably cost 20k+ for the year.

The system may be a non-profit but you aren't. I would support forfeiting your debt as soon as you forfeit your salary.
