I remember Del Mar being amazing. Though this was probably 1979 and I was 12 at the time, so traffic and housing costs weren't on my radar.

I don't get the appeal of San Francisco. They can keep their fog and cold weather.

Carmel/Monterey would be nice, but even less in my budget than Del Mar.

this is my 2nd time out there, and this time more than the previous time, i really want to move out there. if i didn't have a lot of family here (MD) i'm pretty confident that my wife and i would simply pick up and leave. we bought a house 2 years ago and we really like it a lot, but damn, it's just awesome out there. we were staying with our friends at their house so it's not like we were in the touristy area the whole time too. but just the whole life style out there and the way things are is so chill and different. they are even trying to convince my wife and i to move out there and are willing to find me a job out there.

just curious on most people's thoughts who have been out to san diego and liked it, if they wanted to also move out there. yeah housing prices are crazy, and my friends are actually renting a house since they can't afford to purchase one, but it seems that is what a lot of people do out there.

I went in 2009 with my wife. We enjoyed it but the cost of living is so incredibly high that we were glad to be leaving. It is also quite lacking in green space. Except for the gold courses, of course.

Yes, but it's no fun running the AC in January either...

Very rarely do I ever run the AC outside of July/August/September and it only sees sporadic use during those months. I live 7 miles from the ocean though so it doesn't get as hot here as it does inland.

The weather is a nice advantage but the downtown is lacking in comparison to what LI/NYC have. We have beaches (numerous), the food (big minus for SD), the entertainment (shows, sports teams). Visited my brother when he lived there and it wasn't anything super special. Was a beautiful day of course.

What ruins NY for me are the public sector unions having their hands in everybody's pocket. Expensive is ok, but thievery is not.

The distance to the Caribbean also sucks, cause I like to go there often. But on the other hand, it's much closer to Hawaii and the places in the Indian Ocean I one day want to go to.

Is the population density > 50 people per square mile? If so, I wouldn't want to live there. I hate people.

Depends on where you live. There is horse property near me and some areas where the homes have large properties especially around the canyons and foothills.

How is that a plus? Snow is awesome. Rain, wind, ice, sleet, hail and freezing fog are bullshit. But everyone loves snow.

If I want snow I can drive an hour to the local mountains and play in the snow. At least I'm not battling with it on my daily commute.

SD is nice, but if I was moving to CA coast, it would be Santa Cruz, Monterrey, or San Luis Obispo. Problem with any of those is work options/long commutes.

SD is a great place to visit, but I don't see ever living there. I am not enough of a beach person to do that. My wife would like it though. I don't see me ever wanting to move from CO. I could see us swapping our mtn condo with a house up in the mountains and then take the proceeds from our denver home to buy a condo in the CA coast.

No because I am used to a wide diversity of races here in NY and Mexifornia doesn't appeal to me at all. It's ridiculous how I didn't see another race when I went to LA a few years back.

And when I actually heard someone use the term "Ese" I felt like laughing my ass off while throwing up at the same time.

Everything there looks so fake too. It's the complete opposite of NYC.

Not sure if srs. Within my 5 mile radius:

Good ol whiteys, blacks, Mexicans, viet/chinese/ Thai /Japanese/korean/various Middle East types (I'm next to little Armenia and an Islamic center), Russians,Indians.

LA (and NYC) are the most diverse places I have ever been to.

Where the fuck did you go in LA, ranchos palos verdes???

:hmm:

Current SF temp: 58F

Current Columbus OH temp: 28F

LOL. But when I midwesterner comes out to California he expects warmth and sunshine. We're used to cold weather here, though this polar blitzkrieg has us 20 degrees under our norms right now. It's supposed to be 50 right now. (I've complained to management).
I was there one April and the it was cold and foggy all morning. Just wasn't what I was expecting. Beautiful city though.

Like I mentioned above, don't ever compare SD to LA, please, EVER.
