I worked at a vet clinic when was 16 or so. We used a mesh bag to bathe cats. Put them in the bag, tie the bag to the wall of the tub. And then just get started.
They could not get away, though some would actually run up the wall inside the bag.. until they hit the end of the rope.
They were nylon bags like what you put basketballs in.

We bathe ours when necessary. It just takes 2 people and a bit of patience and caution. It also depends a lot on the personality of the cat. Some will struggle like you are trying to kill them while others will just stand there and shiver and make the occasional halfhearted attempt to escape if they fell you relax your hold on them.

I have never tried to give a cat a bath before so I sat down and read the instructions on the shampoo bottle. ?Wet cat? it said, then ?work shampoo into a lustrous lather? and rinse. What the bottle didn?t say is that as soon as your cat gets the first tiny droplet of water on its paw the situation changes dramatically. No longer are you trying to give your cherished pet a bath to rid it of the fleas that are driving it crazy. No, now you are trying to wash an angry, furry chipper shredder that is howling like an air raid siren.

Everyone knows that cats don?t like water. You can ask any five year old, ?what do cats not like?? and they will tell you water. To say that cats do not like water though isn?t really accurate. For instance I do not like peas. However if Kara were to serve me peas I would not grab a kitchen knife and begin slashing wildly at the exposed parts of her body while scrambling for the nearest exit and screaming at the top of my lungs.

Our cats successfully scratch or bite us just about every time we give them a bath. One of our tabby cats is a lean muscular 12 lbs and he can be a real bitch to hold down.

Definitely have someone help you out or you're in for a real treat!

Done it with the wife's help. We fill a bucket with warm water and I hold the cat and lower em down into the bucket once. I'm also holding both sets of paws so they can't claw me. Then the wife soaps up the cat with the pet shampoo and I lower the cat into the bucket again. Then we just rinse off the cat. Usually the cat gives up by the shampooing.

a friend of mine didn't believe me when i told him to not move when we entered the house. suffice it to say, he needed a huge gauze pad and lots of neosporin afterwards....

the only way to enter the house was if he wasn't around to be there, or you stand there and wait until he gets bored of you and goes away.

OMG I WAS  SO HARD hahahahaha

This thread is fucking gold. 15/10 for humor

Here's my cat washing story to add to this thread. My aunt is allergic to pet dander, and she was coming out to visit us. We had 2 dogs and a cat at the time, and had to clean the whole house to get rid of the dander. Steam cleaned carpets/rugs/furniture, washed dogs with shampoo to help stop that, and had to wash the cat also. Well we get into the bathroom with the cat (who is evil and did similar shit as the one takeru described, which all our family have scars from), and it knew what was about to happen. He is at the door to the bathroom yowling and my stepdad and I are in there to give him the bath (we figured it would take one to hold him and a second to wash him).

So we pick him up and try to hold him in the bathtub, and the cat's thrashing about clawing at us (just had rear claws). After about 10 minutes of trying my stepdad had enough and leaves the bathroom saying he will brb. I'm going fuck I don't want to stay in the bathroom with this crazed cat who just was in water. Well a few minutes later he opens the door, and in his hands he is holding something. I hear the disctinct sound of tape releasing from the roll, and turn around to see him holding a roll of duct tape. He has me pick up the cat and then duct tapes the cats hind legs together. If you have never seen this, it is one of the funniest sights ever. The cat gave us no further problems as we gave him a bath.

So OP, I recommend duct tape the hind legs together.

I've had to bathe on of our 19 lbs monster cat several times. He gets HORRIBLY car sick. I mean every orifice that can excreate a fluid or a solid, does. It's disgusting and the fluids leak continuously though out the trip. The only reason I was able to accomplish the bath was because he was exhausted from being sick for 3 hours.

If it is just dust or powder on your cat I'd suggest these. They work pretty good and it'll save your flesh some pain. Also remember cats are pretty clean anyways and anything the wipes miss your cat will take care of.

We have two cats - one is fairly easy to bathe. I give him a bath once every 6 months or so. They're both ragdolls and neither are particularly great at cleaning themselves so we typically give them lion cuts once a year or so to help keep the dander level down.

The other cat is a total nightmare. I'd rather pour some shampoo in a toilet, toss him in, and close the lid. Let him worry about sudsing it up

That is the most awesome thing I've ever see. God I fucking hate cats.

I have never understood how people can "hate" a particular species, unless they were attacked by one and thus are scared of them.

Because they think they are 'cool' and 'superior' if they dislike other species or other people. He's like Al Qaida or the KKK, needing to hate someone or something.

Thanks, you've given me one more thing for my list. I now hate you

Seriously, though, cat's are worthless imo. I say imo because I get no pleasure out of their company and they serve no other purpose. Oh, and my girlfriends cat pissed in my office. Twice.

is this you?

I gave our psychotic cat a bath several times. Actually a shower. When it did bad things like tear up the TP roll or scatter garbage everywhere I just throw it in the glass doored shower with it on.

Clean Wet Pussy.

As for an actual bath where cleaning was involved - I didn't think this was possible unless your cat was retarded or deaf or something.

A cat who is not used to bathing will be more scared of the sound the water makes coming out of the tap, than of the water itself.

My wife tried doing this when our cats were younger. Honestly I have never bathed a cat before because they do it themselves. And both of these cats were exceptionally clean so I never understood why she did it. Anyways they hated it but it was kind of funny to watch them shrink. One of our cats is a maine my excellent compatriot cat. Nothing but fluff. She looked about half her normal size with her hair matted down with water.

Eventually she stopped doing it thank god. Funny thing is now our maine my excellent compatriot jumps on the side of the shower and licks the faucets and side as we take a shower. In the process she gets drenched on her head and shoulders and it doesnt bother her at all.

cat baths, oh yes i have given my cat a bath. ever seen the garfiled comic strips where john tries to give garfield a bath and comes out in bandages? it's all true.

how i usually give my cat a bath is fill the tub with water up to thier knees, and then turn it off. if you kepp the water running it tends to freak them out. then i just shampoo her and rinse.

good luck

make sure you cut it's nails before showering and it's head is not wet first. Get a really good hold on it's arms or legs and make quick work through it's body. I had helped my grandma bath the cat before and that's how she does it.

One of our cats actually loved water, showers in particular. If you happened to leave the bathroom door not totally closed the next thing you know this little black cat has pawed open the shower door and climbs right in with you.

We got a cat a few weeks ago and thought it would be good to give him a bath.

We were about 1ft from the water before he turned my arms into a bloody mess.

He still hasn't had a bath.

This cat would have been embedded in the nearest wall in my house.

Wear thick leather gloves that go up to your elbow...oh, motorcycle leathers and a helmet might be a good idea too. It's for your protection. You'll thank me later.

They really don't like it, but if you are quick efficient and hold on tight, you can escape with no severed arteries.

I remember giving a bath to the first cat I had when I was a kid we had to toss her into one of those large potato sacks and then placing her in the tub with the water.

Needless to say she almost had a hole worked out by the time we were done but it was still large enough to stick out her paw a few times and cut a few blood vessels out.
