Has anyone ever taken an operations management class?

Class description is: "Examines problems encountered in planning, operating, and controlling production of goods and services. Topics include: waiting-line management, quality assurance, production systems, project management, and inventory management. Computer and quantitative models used in formulating managerial problems."

I'm trying to figure out whether I should take it summer quarter or fall quarter. I'm stuck doing 5 classes fall quarter, so it's trying to determine whether I should do an operations management class (4 credits) or an accounting info systems class (3 credits).

Anyone have a sense as to which would be easier to fit into an already busy courseload?

Cheers!
Nate

Summer Courseload:
Accounting 301 - Intermediate Accounting I (3 credits)
IS 300 - Introduction to Information Systems (5 credits)
B Cmu 302 - Basic Written Business Communication for Accounting Majors (4 credits)

Fall Courseload:
Accounting 302 - Intermediate Accounting II (3 credits)
Accounting 311 - Cost Accounting (3 credits)
Mktg 301 - Marketing Concepts(4 credits)
Mgmt 320 - Business, Government, and Society (4 credits)

WTF Fusetalk just vomited all over me.

ive taken the class back when i was an undergrad as a business management major.

ummm the accounting class would be better to take in a shorter length of time than the mgmt. getting small doses of operations management will help you hold on to your sanity longer.

When I took an operations management class 10 years ago, it wasn't very difficult. Aside from the usual lectures and exams, we had to write a term paper. Relatively simple concepts.

As for accounting information systems, I wonder if that's similar to Business Information Systems. That, too, is quite simple, especially for someone who is computer savvy. Actually, for someone who knows computer, a little bit of programming, some familiarity with database and spreadsheets, the accounting info s ystems class should be a cake walk compared to the Operations Mgmt class.

So it might be better to do the accounting class in the fall and focus on operations management in the summer?

Taken one and passed with an A. Easy class.
It all depends on how much of a load you can handle. Only you can really answer that. Accounting was easier for me than OPM was however.

No, operations management is hella boring. If you want a huge concentrated dose and kill yourself, then take it during the summer. I think djplayx714 meant to tell you to spread it out over an entire semester.

Management classes are usually easy (I always got As) but will involve a lot of reading. I enjoy them... usually a lot of real life examples Accounting = boring.

I have an MS in Operations Management so I might be biased. The intro is probably pretty easy but if you need help let me know.

for me i felt that accounting classes were just elaborate and sensationalized instructions on how to fill out forms. debit...credit...(2 hour lecture on something slightly related)...debit...credit...

I took those classes years ago and they were pretty easy. Took accounting as well but those classes were boring as hell; easy, just real head-nodders. I guess I'm not much help other than to say that operations management was more interesting, if that's of any value.
