Has anyone ever used/drawn a gun in a home defense situation?

There have been quite a few gun threads recently and I have thought about making this topic for a while too.

Are there any ATOT'ers that have at least drawn a firearm in a home defense situation? If so I would like to hear some of these stories. Just out of curiosity I guess.

No, but if anyone even looks at me wrong while I'm riding my bicycle, I pull out my piece and brandish it threateningly. It's the safe way to ride.

I think this is a little too obvious for a troll thread. They have to start more subtle.
I'm betting it will fail.

Yes. I've gunned down 15 burglars since buying my house in 2006. Guns are awesome and it's amazing how frequently I deal with intruders.

I have answered the door armed but I never had to bandish it.

Yes.

Cliff's Notes:

A guy, his budy and a woman were trying to break into one of our houses. Just happened that my Dad and I were driving out to some of our land and saw them. We stop, jump out of the truck and both draw on them and tell them to stop. Proceed to hold them at gunpoint until the Sheriff arrives, which took about 30 minutes. At one point one of the guys decided to start talking shit and take a couple of steps towards my Dad, until a round went into the dirt between his legs and he wised up and decided to stand still.

Good work! Did they get jail time?

Edit: And I think you may want to study up on what "Clif's Notes" means.

I shot someone once. It was my wife. Bet she will not get up in the night to use the bathroom again.

Yes on the jail time. One of them was out on parole and ended up doing a longer stint.

Believe me, I shortened it a lot.

The shit talking situation is why you should also have some form of handcuffs. I keep pre-made zip tie handcuffs in my car and at home. What if the guy who breaks in and you stop is real desperate? He may try to attack you or get away, need some way to restrain him/her.

That's when you do the Jimbo & Ned defense.

Answering the door with your dick in your hand is not what the OP is asking about.

At least I don't think it is.

I was downstairs in the basement once and there was a crash against the window, about peed my pants. Ran upstairs, grabbed the AK, chambered a round. Went back down with flashlight and AK, I was scared stiff. I thought it was someone trying to break in. Ended up being a cat that fell into my window bay and was trying to jump back out. (I had a 2x4 'lattice' over the deep bay to keep kids from falling in). PHEW.

I got mine out once. Husband was on maneuvers and was supposed to be gone for another 2 weeks. I woke up in the middle of the night and there was a large misshapen form in the bedroom doorway. I pulled out my pistol and was swinging it towards the shadow when my husband announced himself. There he stood in full camo garb and backpack. After I calmed down he apologized for scaring me and said he had to come home. There were just things it was so hard to live without in the field. I got all coy and pulled the covers back, ready to welcome him into bed when he headed down the hall stating that he just had to have a hot shower! I almost shot him again just for that!

True story.

I had to draw on someone once in the park, while walking my dog. I would have drawn on a couple burglars at home once as well, but I was only about 17 at the time and had no gun near me so I used a sword instead. I drew and fired at a rabid (or at least overly excited) raccoon that was attacking our dog in the back yard. I have drawn dozens of times to investigate noises and what not, though not specifically 'on someone'. I've had to draw numerous times as a part of work as well, though only a few times actually 'on someone'.

#1: There was a police chase through Dallas a while back, complete with helicopters. We go to sleep, and about 30 minutes later, we hear a vehicle tear down our drive way, and into the backyard. My dad ran to the back window with a shotgun and stuck through the screen, and yelled that if the guy moved, he would kill him. Then the police came tearing down our drive-way. Out of all the places to hide -- our backyard?!

#2: Same house. I posted this story on Anandtech a long time ago. We were returning home from a movie (the entire family) and we see a truck in the backyard. We park in front of the house, my sister and mom go next door, and my dad and I go to the backyard. My dad is armed with a pistol, I have nothing at the time. The bed of the truck in the backyard was full of our shit -- lawn mower, tools, etc -- and the guy was rooting around in the garage. Our garage is a workshop with well over $250k in tools and machinery. I picked up a large steel pipe and waited for him to open the garage door again. My dad was covering me with the pistol. When the guy walked through the door, I swing the pipe as hard as I could, hitting him in the chest and the face before he went down. Police came, ambulance came, pressed charges.

#3: Apartment I lived in (very upscale in University Park). There were three inside-access units, I lived in one of them. The guy first kicked in the outside door, then kicked in the management office's door. I peeked outside through the window and saw a burly black man toting away a computer and an LCD. I got my pistol, and waited behind my couch for him to kick my door in. Sadly, he kicked in the other unit's door, she was home, and he ran off without letting me shoot him in the face.
