#1: There was a police chase through Dallas a while back, complete with helicopters. We go to sleep, and about 30 minutes later, we hear a vehicle tear down our drive way, and into the backyard. My dad ran to the back window with a shotgun and stuck through the screen, and yelled that if the guy moved, he would kill him. Then the police came tearing down our drive-way. Out of all the places to hide -- our backyard?!
#2: Same house. I posted this story on Anandtech a long time ago. We were returning home from a movie (the entire family) and we see a truck in the backyard. We park in front of the house, my sister and mom go next door, and my dad and I go to the backyard. My dad is armed with a pistol, I have nothing at the time. The bed of the truck in the backyard was full of our shit -- lawn mower, tools, etc -- and the guy was rooting around in the garage. Our garage is a workshop with well over $250k in tools and machinery. I picked up a large steel pipe and waited for him to open the garage door again. My dad was covering me with the pistol. When the guy walked through the door, I swing the pipe as hard as I could, hitting him in the chest and the face before he went down. Police came, ambulance came, pressed charges.
#3: Apartment I lived in (very upscale in University Park). There were three inside-access units, I lived in one of them. The guy first kicked in the outside door, then kicked in the management office's door. I peeked outside through the window and saw a burly black man toting away a computer and an LCD. I got my pistol, and waited behind my couch for him to kick my door in. Sadly, he kicked in the other unit's door, she was home, and he ran off without letting me shoot him in the face.
