Works for me. Coverage not as good as Verizon in my area but 40 bucks cheaper a month so totally worth it...

Not Straight Talk, but TracFone and Net10; all three are subsidiaries of the same company.

I like their rate plans, and that they offer a choice between the big four networks depending on which phone or SIM you use. However, I doubt TF/N10/ST customers have access to the same roaming networks as postpaid customers of AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile.

Beyond that, they work as advertised, but based on the few times I've called them, customer service is NOT good, and there are reports that if there are problems porting a number in or out, it could be a small ordeal to resolve.

It depends on whether you value a low price, or generally better service and phone selection.

I pay $42.50 for unlimited everything using AT&T LTE on ST.

This.

Sometimes I buy 3 month refills on ebay for $95, but those are YMMV.

Two things you should know
1. Their customer service is awful. They will not resolve anything for you. Facebook support might be better.

2. The data goes through a proxy I believe. So ping times may be 120-250ms on LTE, while normal ATT customers can have pings of 50ms. Download speeds are the same though. I can get 10-20 Mbps down.

They recently started stating their download cap, so you don't really have to worry about how much data you use in a day anymore I think. ST/American Mobil, etc are kind of shady business-wise sometimes too.

Heard too many horror stories about ST shutting down customer's phones because they used too much data in one day and never came close to using the 2.5gb allowed/month.

I was worried after reading a lot of horror stories but have been with them for 11 months without issue. I've actually had decent experience with the customer service In the event I've had to call them. Coverage is ok but building penetration for me is poor. All in all not bad for the price.

I would get att ST (i use att proper now), so would i get identical building penetration to what i receive now?

I bought two AT&T-versions of Straighttalk SIMs last week, went to the website to port my numbers and walked through the website, got an error that told me to call customer support, and I called customer service twice and both times they said something like "our computers our down, please call back again later".

I'm sure it's great once you get it working, but so far, this isn't going well.

All I can say is that their customer service is poor. Most of the reps are from other countries and you can hardly make out what they're saying. The rep I talked to kept going in circles and kept talking about non-issues and wouldn't focus on why the sim card wasn't being recognized. I ended up going to facebook where I complained and then someone got back to me and helped me through it.
If you get your phone working then great. If not then be prepared to get bumped around.

Same here. Too shady.
Their small print says unlimited browsing or some such. So any youtube or music streaming is a breach of TOS and they can kill your number and it's gone for good. But what do you expect from a Walmart joint..
No thanks I'm staying away.

I had straight talk for 4-6 months last year... was ok but I couldn't deal with their 3g/hspa+ coverage at the time and the voice quality was horrible. I tried both tmobile/att sim cards.
I currently use tmobile prepaid $70 unlimited but I may switch back to straight talk for $45 since their ATT sim now has LTE. 2.5GB is plenty to be honest... unless you're watching videos/downloading high bitrate audio all day long. I tried downloading etc off spotify + youtube and only used about 30-35GB on the tmobile unlimited plan.

No data roaming, for sure. However, Tracfone/ST/Net10 may actually have a better roaming profile for talk in some areas because of additional contracts with smaller/regional providers. For example, my in-laws live in BFE, Wyoming. The only provider with coverage is a shitty regional carrier called Union Wireless. ST roams on them, the big 4 don't.

AT&T does data roaming on Union. I go up to Wyoming often enough and I have data there on my postpaid AT&T account.

You actually get throttled after you past 2.5gb in a month for the reminder of the month.

After the 2.5 GB, it's 2G (EDGE)?

AT&T's EDGE isn't that bad around here. 0.2 Mbps up/down. Good enough for RSS feeds.

Yeah, you're right. Though the throttle is so severe it's effectively a 2.5GB cap of functional data. 4GB hard cap according to here.

difference betwee ST's throttle and t-mobile's "2G" throttle when you go over their limit?

think t-mobile's throttled speed is around 50-100 kbits/s... i'll find out myself when I go over in a few days...
