It doesn't matter if you think it is better, it's non-essential. That's the whole "shiny bauble" thing. But whatever you guys can believe whatever you want to make yourselves feel better about something you shouldn't have feelings for either way. Did you make the right purchase for you? Sure, you bought what you wanted. Like I said though, don't pretend you made by any means a smart purchase. Luxury items are not smart purchases.

Those of us who still have a pulse wouldn't be caught dead in a rolling appliance like a Prius. Sure the GT gets worse gas mileage but the power and handling more than make up for it.

so why do you need a mustang GT when you can find something that will do the same thing w/o the ridiculous ford GT markup?

get a civic and throw a turbocharger in there.

It's a smart purchase because I don't have to suffer through windows, windows is non-essential, therefore by your logic it's just a shiney bauble...?!

My productivity increase in OSX for offsets the extra cost of the apple machine and I get near 0 benefit from having a marginally faster windows machine. It's not about cycles per second, but what you do with it

I don't consider OSX a luxury thing, it's not like my computer is diamond studded or something... it's just far better system for what I do.

get a civic and throw a turbocharger in there.

By the time you get a new Civic and all the parts you need to pull 412hp and 390lb.-ft of torque out of it as well as match the GT's handling it won't be anywhere close to half the price; heck it might even be more expensive.

PS: you don't need 412hp to be faster than the mustang.

funny building a PC vs buying a mac is a valid argument but building a fast car vs buying a fast car is not.

I keep trying to find that law that says something about "The longer an internet debate goes on, the more likely a bad car analogy will be brought up"

(Paraphrasing here)

Exactly it's like saying "Why buy an Aston martin" you can just have an 1984 Honda Civic...

If luxury items are not smart purchases then by that logic no one on this forum should upgrade their hardware until their current hardware dies. I've got an 8 year old laptop lying around somewhere, it works great! Maybe I should have stuck with that rather than buying my MacBook Pro a while ago...?

I'm a network engineer by trade, I don't buy things because they are shiney... Ever.

this is pretty much the same shit. no matter what kinda car you drive there's probably something else out there that does the same "job" and is cheaper OR is spec'ed better and is cheaper (but lacks all the things that makes YOUR CAR awesome).

Perhaps not but you need a hell of a lot more power than it has stock and seeing as a Civic Si starts at ~21k vs ~$30k for the GT the Civic + parts will never be half the price.

That's not the case with the stuff I buy, I buy the best car at the price i can afford, All though I don't modify cars so there is that...

Let me guess, you eat the same sandwich every day at work?

You know what else isn't essential?

-Cars
-Cable TV
-internet
-Air Conditioning
-Heating

I could go on and on.

Who the fuck are you to tell me what is and isn't a smart purchase? Aren't you part of the same apple haters who hate on Steve Jobs because he tells you what you can and cant do on his OS?

Pot, meet kettle...

I don't care what Steve does with OSX, I don't use it and yes some of those things in todays world can be considered essentials depending on where you live. OSX is something that could literally disappear this instant and the world would really lose nothing and continue to function. Those other things you mentioned would bring parts of the world or the whole world to a standstill. I guess I just view things vastly different than you guys.

a smart purchase is whatever you buy that was worth its value to you or has/can gain value over time. has nothing to do with what it is or how much you pay for it.

You have an absolutely warped viewpoint. You make buying decisions based on how essential the item is to how the rest of the world functions?

That deserves a serious WTFBBQ.

Im done arguing in this thread.

You.
Just.
Don't.
Get.
