It still looks the same correct? It may run better, but it definitely looks dated.

This. It runs well on Mac, but looks entirely what you'd expect a piece of music software to look like from the late 90s/early 00s.

No worries, it's better to look like dated crap and run well (on the mac), than to look nice and run like butt. Apple will fix it soon, probably with something about as cool as Zune 4+.

It's hard to describe how slick Zune v4+ is (on PC, I don't know/think it's on Mac?), you have to play with it for a bit and you'll see why it's so smooth. It uses a lot of really slick visual tricks (such as multi-depth backgrounds, hybrid details about whats playing / in the library, smart dj, looks really good just left running smart dj or shuffle, easy to sync with Zune hardware, etc).

One area where Apple is massively ahead, and probably always will be, is apps for the devices. Zune is an amazing piece of hardware with the best PC software by far of its type, but for anything besides music/videos it's just not there.

WMP 12 looks like a Winamp skin.

I wouldn't know, mine is edgeless. Just a video frame.

btw lol I was literally thinking as I typed "iTunes looks dated" I was thinking about just how dated Winamp looks. It looks practically the same as it did when it came out, way more features and less buggy, but practically the same.

It has looked exactly the same for 9 years? That's a pretty dated look already. It looked neat and new when OSX was neat and new, but now it's just old and lacking.

If it aint broke don't fix it.

You can use ALT-P in Windows 7 to preview some file types. No where as nice as Quick Look.

Yeah Quick Look is the bomb, I've had things it didn't detect though, h264 MKVs for one for some damned reason or other. Maybe PEBKAC in my case

You know that doesn't fly in the long run. iTunes is waaaaay too clunky to be taken seriously.

OSX Lion is slated to get new iTunes revision.

Even if it does, it will look almost exactly the same, it works and I have never had a problem doing anything in it, everything is right there in front of you all the time. No need to go into menus and submenus etc.

You can use ALT-P in Windows 7 to preview some file types. No where as nice as Quick Look.

Cheers I'll make a note of that.

It is definitely no where near as nice as Quick Look is. The way it's integrated into the file explorer is rather poor for the Windows 7 experience. It looks and behaves like something you would expect from XP, not Windows 7. MS really does need to update it to be more Quick Look-like.

If that's what you refer to as "how to properly maintain a laptop" then you have no idea what you're doing.

no one should have to, it should just work and updates are auto. OS's are platforms to run apps, if you have to maintain an OS, then your on the wrong OS. whats junk is MS's 50 + billion lines of code thats only fixed whenever it fits within their interests of business.
There shouldnt be anything to maintain, you boot up, use applications and be done. Why should anyone have to clean up junk files, fix registry corruptions, defrag..etc when if it was well thought out and coded properly without the stupid registry and non gapping of files to begin with then they wouldnt be stuck on such legacy, so now all they can do is keep fixing their code with new ways of old habits, call it a new OS cause their too scared to lose compatability and start completely over to meet the modern requirements.

Linux ftw. thought out and maintained by millions of people who care about users and not $$$$ :whiste:

All I see are Apple fanboys making poor excuses for the premiums they pay. Aga, you can do a google search for an article on how to improve your MBP battery life in Windows. It won't be as good as in OSX, but you should see quite an improvement over 2 hrs.

eh. part for part the prices are closer than they used to be. you still pay a bit more, but honestly i paid it for os x, not for the hardware. some people pay for the look of the product, which is whatever, it's their choice. it's not like the old days, and when they do a refresh it's usually pretty close with an identical build. unfortunately, you're stuck with what apple offers, so you'll always be able to buy a cheaper pc.

as far as os x being outdated, i don't see how can you improve on the gui itself. you can add features and whatnot, but the basic look is pretty solid like it is. i don't know why i like it more than what windows is doing, because it takes up more real estate (i don't do hiding on either os), but once you get used to using the dock it's hard to go back to the task bar.

i'm not sure if i qualify as a fanboy anymore since i do 90% of my computing on a windows pc these days (although i said earlier in the thread, i am on my macbook pro now because my dell crapped out), but that's my opinion anyway.
