i have used sites like this "passport-pictures.com" (i am NOT linking it directly - since i don't want to violate any AT rules!).

basically upload the photo and you can pick it up from walgreens, etc. they even give you the modified image so that you can use it for more prints. i remember it was a bit cheaper as well.

you can do this yourself though.

just to parrot some other posters - I took the photos for my wife & I and successfully used them for passports & visa applications.

There are some websites which let you upload a picture and scale/crop it to the correct ratio (which may differ by country if its for a visa). We took the photos against a slightly off-white wall, using my P&S camera (not DSLR or anything like that).

For US passports, I think its 2" x 2", so we were able to fit 6 on a 4X6" picture - which we got printed at CVS and cut ourselves. I printed 2-3 copies of each 4x6 and we're set for photos for a while.

Sort of -- the ID card isn't good for air travel, so if you plan on flying to Mexico or Canada you'll still need the book.

the last passport photo I got sucked, I am 6'2 and person taking it was 5' and then the screen behind me only 6' high so.. I had to squat for the photo looks like im taking a shit.. lol
