Has anyone had the opportunity to OC 750 Duron or TBird on 266MHz bus?

I don't have a 750 lying around anywhere, so I was interested if anyone has has success in oc'ing a Tbird 750 or a Duron 750 to 1 GHz ( 997) via the 133Mhz support on the KT133a boards.
Sounds like it could be a winner.
Anyone?

I tried the same on ABIT KT7A-RAID, but had to settle with 7*133=933. What temp do you get? what cooling do you use?

Idle around 40 C full load 48 C it is LOAD with CPU Burn and 3dmark200 run, room temp around 26 C. One thing I realize with this Soltek mobo after standby mode the CPU getting a lot colder in idle, its only 33 C. I don't know what wrong, I read somewhere its happen with Asus KT board too. Its says about wrong implementation for idle voltage to CPU in the BIOS.

I use CoolerMaster DP5-6H51 with Mitsubishi fan rated @ 0.22 ampere, sure people says Cooler Master is crap, but I don't think so, they made heatsink for most OEM, read tom's hardware review on this heatsink. I suspect the Thermaltake Volcano is made by CoolerMaster cos is exactly the same heatsink also Taisol share the same look but lighter weight, I think it made from different aluminium. Also I am using crap thermal paste, the reason why I am using crap thermal paste and weak fan cos I couldn't get it anywhere here in my country.

The key to get 1G is connecting L7 on the CPU so the default voltage 1.85 v, so the CPU can load first, before I could only get 933 and blank screen for 1G. The reason for this cos when computer start it read multiplier first and then voltage, when the voltage not enough the computer won't boot.

I completely agree with soundsation. I have a Duron 750@1000 on my Iwill KK266. In order to achieve this, I HAD to cover the L7's so the CPU would default to 1.85v. My chip runs at 35c idle and 39c full load with my FOP38 and an ambient case temp of 29c. Like EVERYONE ELSE, you will not be able to POST at 133MHz without covering the L7's.

To be honest the fact that the chip is a 750Mhz is not really the main problem - it's whether or not it can run stable at 1000Mhz.
I can run my Duron 700 at 7.5 x 133FSB - but due to higher temps I generally run at either 933Mhz or 950Mhz with 1.775v as opposed to 1.85v with 1000Mhz.
I assume you want this chip so you don't have to fiddle with pencils etc?

My rig she posts alright, but won't get into windows on 7,5*133. Get's thru splashscreen sometimes, but get a failmessage on m.... something program and then nothing. Temp rises above 50 on the rig

Soundsation,
We are using the same heatsink/fan - works very well for me too.

I called AMD HK months ago to ask about recommended temps for Duron chips and I'm sure Coolermaster was one of the recommended heatsink/fans.

Yes true the heatsink is in AMD recommendation list, Coolermaster says its certified for Thundderbird up to 1.2 GH.
BTW are you using same fan like me??? Mitsubishi 6x6x2.5 cm 0.22 ampere?

Hovenas : I believe heat is your issue, I wasn't able to make it to windows before changing the thermal pad to thermal paste and I look at the BIOS temp is around 50 C. I realize I could only make it to windows if temp 45 C max.

It's really strange, I use the GlobalWin FÒP 38 with a Sanyo Denki fan (the delta's noiselevel and my wife's ears has a compability issue) but it doesn't cool the way I expected it to. I use Arctic silver paste and the systemp is around 31 always. On my current setting, CPUtemp around 46.
Don't know what to do, don't think Delta is an option...
Suggestions?

Thats strange, try removing the heatsink and clean the CPU and heatsink, maybe you need to lap the heatsink. When you put it back make sure to wipe the CPU and heatsink with rubbing alcohol before applying thermal paste and don't use your hand, hopefully will reduce the temp

Gavin grunts as he gets down below the table and removes case side panel.......

...and then remembers it is difficult to read the label at 4600rpm....

......after removing the case cover and peering in with the torch....hehe

hovenas : lapping your heatsink is sanding your heatsink with sandpaper/gridpaper, use fine one, get it in hardware store. Usually people use this sandpaper for car paintwork. Make your heatsink as flat as you can, the surface become shiny after.

gtd 2000 : I don't use stock fan and this is the link for DP5-6H51Coolermaster
Its come with 6x6x1.5 cm fan made by sanyo denki 4500 RPM and 1.21 ampere, I knew it cos I opened it and changing with new Mitsubishi fan

Sorry did the wrong fan...
I've updated the link...
Runs at 4600-4700rpm though - it was advertised at 5000rpm

Temp right now is 38C - but it's been up to 51C after gaming - warmer weather this week in HK

Lapping, the secret art of the masterclockers, yes? Does it make difference (I suppose otherwise you wouldn't do it right, but REAL difference?) to the performance of the HSF.
Thanx for the education (Lot to think about when oc'ing).

hovenas,
A big time overclocker will also lap the CPU core so that it also has a smooth even surface

Ran a Duron 750 in an Abit KT7A board at 133x7.5 or 998Mhz.
2/2001 CPU, (forgot week) Only needed to connect L1 bridges. No other mods needed.
Using 133fsb no longer gives the option for memory to run at FSB+PCICLK, so memory is at 133MHz. PCI/AGP is at 33/66Mhz.

Also ran 140x7 or 980 MHz. This bumped up the memory and bus a little more.

But, sorry to say, 133Mhz is more of a gimic with normal AMD's. Perhaps the latest AMD's designed for use with the 133MHz FSB, will support better overclocking to around 150+ fsb. As it currently stands, my system using 112x9, or 1008MHz, runs everything much faster, and scores higher in all benchmarks, compared to 133 and 140fsb. The lower 112MHz fsb gives me the option of running memory at 112+37, or 149MHz, and with quality PC150 ram available cheap now, running memory at anything less than 145, is defeating it's purpose. Also, the 133MHz fsb uses a 1/4 divider for PCI, while the 112MHz fsb still uses the 1/3 divider. So, even at 140 fsb x 7, CPU would be at 980MHz, memory would be at 140, PCI at 35, AGP at 70 (280 using 4x AGP), and IDE would be at ?. Compare that to 112 x 9, and CPU is at 1008MHz, memory at 149MHz, PCI at 37, AGP at 75 (300 using 4X) and IDE would be faster as well. At the most, this 112 is still only overclocking everything by 12% max, which any system should be able to do.

I did lap the heatsink and yes, noticed an increase in temploss. Thanx for the samples of infininte oc-wisdom!!!
