Has anyone here had a slump in grades during their college years?

I had a pretty bad slump during the first semester of Sophomore year. I had a crappy schedule (3 3-hour classes back-to-back, and I hated all three professors), so I cut way too many classes and it screwed me. Even though my test grades were at an A level, I blew off tons of projects and minor homework assignments, so ended up with 1 C (poetry workshop), 1 B- (honors psychology), and 1 B (world lit 1).

Still got A's in all my other classes, but that was still my worst semester of college. The poetry workshop thing was what killed me. I mean, I've been published. That deserves at least an honorary A I retook the class the next semester, though, and bumped that grade up to the A that it should have been. It was definitely a good lesson in the importance of going to class.

World Lit 1 remains the only English class that I didn't get an A or an A- in... it still drives me up the wall. but the professor was batsh!t crazy. there's no way I'd have been able to retake the class and deal with him again.

My me and my friends, freshman year was the worst... too much stupidity and not much studying. From there we had no where else to go but up. We all graduated as engineers in the 3.2-3.6 range. One of them got into Stanford for a masters program. He had something like a 3.5 and didn't have much work/intern experience at all.

I had a 2.0 semester once due to some personal issues... okay, beer.... but thankfully it was only 12 hours. I rebounded by pulling a 3.9(ish) with 19 hours the next semester.

I nearly flunked my college years. I chose the wrong subjects. But everything went a LOT better in uni. Good stuff all the way

Hmmm, I experienced this myself, but I didn't realize it was so common.

Freshmen year I came in swinging. I'd always been a slightly above average student, but had been lazy. When college started though, I planned to change that. My Freshmen year I did extremely well. Then my sophmore year, despite having much easier classes in subjects that interested me more...I didn't do so hot. It wasn't a major hit or anything, but I got Bs across the board, maybe one A-. I was just lazy, thats all there was to it.

I came back harder than ever the last two years though and had a couple straight A semesters, including the last one, which is tough to do since you're so lazy by then. That set of Bs held me back even at the end though, I only graduated cum laude since I was 1 hundreth of a point shy of the cutoff for magna cum laude...I was pissed.

heh, if I'd had two bad quarters instead of four, I could've been cum laude.
