Has anyone owned or know anyone who's owned a wild animal/dog mix?

A friend of a friend owns a dalmadoodle (dalmation/poodle mix) that was impregnanted by a wild coyote a little while back. The puppies are now available for adoption, and I am wondering how their temperment will be as adults - unpredictable, wild, etc.? Does it depend more on how they are raised than their genetics?

Has anyone ever owned a domesticated dog+wild animal mix? If so, what was the mix and what was the animal like?

I'll try to get pictures, and when I do it will post them. No babies yet, but we are planning for one within the next few years.

I wouldn't.

Dogs are hard enough to train correctly, and there are plenty of breeds that have shown a history of being smart and obedient. Why would you choose a wild card?

I remember in grade school the local wildlife park used to bring in "wolf-dogs" and show them to us. They were half wolf, half domesticated dog.

As far as temperment, I really don't know. The seemed well enough behaved. I'm sure with training they are fine but I'd be weary that milenia of instinct would have not easily be overwritten.

The dalmadoodle has not been in contact with any other unneutered male domesticated dog, and the puppies are described as: "These are some of the STRANGEST looking puppies you'll ever see. They're totally sweet and not wild acting at all. Big ears, yellow eyes, and a mish mosh of coat colors with a big puffy tail! Almost like... smeared foxes?"

It is my opinion you shouldn't keep wild animals, or part wild animals, as pets. They are WILD for a reason, with a high probability to "turn on you" (though it isn't turning on you for the animal... it's just its nature).

There were a LOT of Beagle/Coyote mixes being bred about 20 years ago. A friend had one and a neighbor got one later on. I really couldn't see much difference between them and a Beagle crossed with a Shepherd mix, except for the color. They both howled a lot, but my Beagle did too, and he was way more aggresive than either of the Coyote mixes. If they seem to be normally behaved, I don't see much problem with it.

An old guy I worked with had about a dozen wolves. His 30 year younger trophy wife and daughter were terrified of them, but his 2 older kids and him would be mobbed by them like movie stars when they went into their pen. The two biggest males, the Alpha and his brother, I guess he would be called the Beta, were close to 200 pounds and were very scary. Even when crossed with a clamer dog, like a lab, they were pretty squirelly. I played with one of the Lab crosses. Seems like anything unexpected got him upset or scared.

Any of those wolves could have killed the old guy, he was maybe 135 pounds and had been hurt badly in the Korean war, and was officially 100% disabled. Didn't keep him from working a full time job standing the entire time, fathering 3 kids, and having two long time marriages, all while collecting a disability check.

..I've seen plenty of coydogs in the wild (Tehama). Their bigger then the standard coyote but have similar behavior i.e.will attack farm animals and take down lambs..sheep and calves sometimes the cattle dogs get attacked and killed too.

Poodle/dalmation/coyote? That's the strangest lineage I've ever heard of. Heck, poodle/dalmation is a strange mating to begin with.

I've known several people with husky/wolf mixes, they've been good dogs.
