The ATI X800XL (PCIe) which performs as well as the 6800GT is supposed to be $100 dollars cheaper. However, the best price I have found if for is $369 at ZipZoomFly. I was almost able to pre-order it from ATI for $299 but it wouldn't add the board to my cart.

Has anyone seen this card for around the $299 MSRP?

Thanks!

Nope, classic ATI keeping production low so as to charge outrageous prices. I would wait at least 2-5 months for it to come down to it's "MSRP"...

Neither ATI nor nVidia want to KEEP the production low LOL, there is a DDR3 shortage impacting production of higher end video cards. This is old news.

CompUSA wil reportedly have these in store for $300 on Monday; some stores will have them in as early as today. It has also been reported that some Fry's have these in stock for $300.

Allstarshop.com has the cheapest online price now, $364.

It only needs to be cheaper than it's competition, the PCI-E 6800GT, which it is.

I was pretty sure the x800XL was a PCIe card only. I could be wrong..but that's what I remember reading.

Please stop smoking whatever you have been smoking.
ATi sells cards at a set price, resellers then add a markup.
Less cards means ATi make less money, because they still sell the cards at the same price. Dealer markup has nothing to do with ATi (well, not totally).

That's funny, I can walk into any frys, best buy, CompUSA and the place is littered with Nvidia cards with DDR3 on top of them. Similarly I can go to almost any on-line computer e-seller with similar results. ATI is just the opposite.

Luckly one can find 850xt's resonanably priced and with good avialibility or I'd write them off totally. Fact is this last whole year ATI had failed to get product on shelves. Nvidia has'nt as much.

it wouldn't be so bad, considering the part is close to the 6800GT's price (~$375), the problem is just that it's obvious that they had no intention of pricing it anywhere near $300. Why lie to us? The original MSRP was $350, which is kinda reasonable. But $299? By the time the X800XL is $300, the 6800GT will be $300 also. Basically, they set the MSRP to the price AFTER it has a price drop, which is misleading. That's like saying that the 6600GT's MSRP is $175, because that's what you can find it for now, 6 months after launch.

As for the GDDR3 shortage, that was like 6 months ago, I don't think there are too many problems with it anymore. People are practically tripping over 6600GTs that use 2ns GDDR3.

I don't think ATI is trying to "lie" to anyone. The MSRP for this card is still $300, as shown on the CompUSA link. They had a few of those in stock earlier today, btw, but they sold out quickly.

Price gouging has been occuring for almost every card this generation. Last summer, 6800GT's were selling online for almost $500 around the time Doom 3 came out, and Ultras were almost impossible to find. The X800XT was selling online for $700 at some stores.

More recently, 6800GT PCIE cards were selling for $500+. You still can't find one for it's $400 MSRP, although prices have decreased significantly. The 6600GT AGP version was approximately $30 above MSRP when it came out; you can now find it for MSRP.

The X800XL came out last month, and prices were rediculously high like with most other cards this generation. The price will drop to MSRP, assuming ATI actually furfills their promises and produces these cards in quantity.

We have already seen greater availability of the X850XT and X800XL than with the X800XT, so that's a start.

FYI to All,

I just went to Compusa and bought the X800 XL for $299 + tax (they 9 in stock). My alternative was the PCIe BFG 6800GT from Monarch for $425. So, I did save over $100! However, this also means I have decided to forego SLI completely.

Thanks for all of the input and help!

Good deal. You should wait for bullhead mobos too. about 30% better mem performance as NF4.

Where at? What state? I went to mine, and they didn't have any. The guy had no clue about anything. He kept saying x800 XT, and I said.. No... not the XT, the XL. :disgust:
