Your too funny ronnn. Thanks for the laugh.

Rollo: Thats a great price for a card that according to ATI owners, "blows away a 6800GT" but is only "slightly faster" than a X800XL according to sellmen. I can't figure that out. Can I borrow your scuba gear Rollo? I have a fear of drowning.
Maybe I'll unload one of my GT's and take you up on your offer. I'll post one in FS/FT. See what happens.

Apparently I should have used "midrange card" to refer to the X800XL, it would have been more accurate.

In any case, if you want it, it's yours, not up for sale at this time on open market. A token of my appreciation for past deals.

(besides, my five year old could care less if he has an XT PE, and I'm not going to drop from a 22" monitor to a 19" to use it!)

No, I said it had slightly higher clockspeeds, not that it is "slightly faster". There will be a 10-15 percent difference between the two performance wise...whether that is worth a 40% price premium is debatable. Many people will get the X800XL and overclock it, at 400mhz core and using the .11 micron process it has more headroom than the XT.

Just got mine this morning. Wish it had VIVO and was dual dvi but I guess for the price I shouldn't complain. Anybody try it out yet

Ahh, but several reviews have shown the .11u X800XL to be a mediocre overclocker.
So don't ever expect to get to X850XT speeds on air.
This was explained though. The X800XL utilizes .11u technology BUT it does not incorporate the low-k dielectric crosstalk "insulation" that the X800pro/XT/PE/X850XT enjoys. Another reason this card is able to sell cheaper. Also uses 2.0ns mem with a theoretical max of 500MHz. YMMV on that one.

Hard OCP was able only to achieve 34Mhz on the core and 67 MHz on the memory and said the card got very warm. Here.

Driver Heaven maxxed out at 432 core 575 memory. Nice o/c on the mem but the core is less than spectacular. Here.

And Anandtech expains why we should not expect great o/c's from this card. At the time of this article however, they did not have a means to test the overclockability of the X800XL test sample. Here.

True it doesnt seem to oveclock very well, but the stock cooler is pretty whimpy. Who knows how high it would go if someone put a silencer on it. Would be interesting to find out.

Well, on a whim I decided to stop by CompUSA on the way home from work. Lo and behold, they had some X800XL's in their video card cabinet. I bought one for $299 ($324 after tax), and now I just need to buy the parts for the rest of my system.

I've been wanting to buy this card since December, so I'm glad it's finally available. I prefer the PowerColor version, but I don't really like it $70 more, so I'm perfectly happy with the ATI one. Hopefully it is relatively quiet.

It's funny how we usually shop online to get the best prices, but this time around the B&M stores are actually delivering while the online places are playing games with the prices.

Anyhow, if anyone lives in the San Jose area, I found my card @ the CompUSA on the corner of Lawrence & El Camino, next to Chili's.

On Tuesday I had gone to the Fry's on Arquez and Lawrence and they didn't have any, so I was pleasantly surprised to see them at CUSA.

The rest of my system will be:
Chantec VNF4 Ultra
A64 3200+
1 GB Cheap Ass RAM
2X WD Raptor RAID 0 (hopefully I can get it working)

Hopefully I'll be able to play WoW without ultra lag anytime a new player comes on screen.

-D'oh!

I started another post as it really looks like these things are blowing up all over at CompUSA. I just got back from TXGF and Sapphire wasn't happy about this.

If we're comparing the two cards, lets compare the fact that the x800xl needs no powersupply hookup, while the 6800gt needs a freaking 450w powersupply. Which also bodes well for noise and heat for the x800xl.
The x800xl is a great value and all the Rollos in the world wont change that.

I am quite interested in how Keys enjoys his new card and if the difference between the 6800gt is noticable.

WTH? Rollo wouldn't try to change that, the X800XL is a great value for $300????????

Gee, I use SLI every day and have used it on any game I've tried. (it doesn't always offer a benefit on some ancient games I can run at 16X12 4X8x lightning fast, but oh well)

The latest 75 series drivers have profiles for 100 games.

There are two utilities that allow you to point and click to create profiles.

Coolbits allows you to force SLI without profiles.

Who do you think is right? The guy using it every day (me) or a guy who has "read some rumors" (MisterChief)?
