I bought the game last night and I have to say it runs rather well even on my HTPC. I have everything turned up to high and it only occasionally drops into unacceptable frame rates. I could probably never drop below 60fps if I set everything down to medium. I turned everything on high right now just to see how it looked on my 65 inch plasma screen. It is a pretty game.

I am trying to figure out the x-box 360 controls currently. Anyone know how to drop things from your inventory? My inventory and stash is full and I can't figure out how to drop anything to make room for things I craft.

I don't know how it works on a controller but be careful with using floating storage boxes, last patch in late Feb they had a bug that would disappear anything stored in them.

Performance wise, the mushroom forest tends to slow down everyone.

The way to drop things with the keyboard is hit tab to open inventory, and right-click an item. Whatever the controller is for right-click.

So i bought the game a while ago, just got around to playing it. Im about 15 hours into it now. Seems alright so far but has little direction in what to do, ive done all the comm quests where you check out the escape pods, seen the rescue ship get screwed right up by the alien plasma cannon. And stopped the radiation leaks on the big mothership that crashed. Now im at a loss as to what im supposed to be doing.

Hopefully they add some story in the final release.

Have you built the various vessels? Found other alien bases deeper?

Built the single man sub, working on mats for the big one i do have the schematic for it. Have followed the alien base that shot down the rescue mission ship down underwater but have not located another base.

Have you been inside the alien base? Once you reach the end room of that you should have received a signal marker to an alien base 1KM away and 700M down. That is your next objective for pushing the story along.

No i do not have the artifact to use to drop the force field, and have been unable to find another entry point. I guess that will be my next objective.

Also, quick question, do the mobs attack your base? the only base i have built so far has been above the water cause i didnt want to risk it getting destroyed by those huge swimming island things. Is this a concern or can i build freely underwater bases with no risk of getting them destroyed?

Some things can attack your base but most of the time nothing does. Best places to build your first underwater base are in the safe shallows/kelp forest area. A few spots where its mostly quiet with no stalkers (metal eaters) are around. 20-30m down and you'll still get decent sun % for solar panels without using power transfer spikes.

Yeah for now i have most of my base above water near the escape pod, where the seafloor is only 1-2meters deep. I have a section of it underwater for the moonpool but most is above water.

The last time I tried putting half my base underwater it caused all kinds of clipping/collision issues. Not to mention stuff was constantly breaking (walls and such, needed lots of repair work).

I found it works better to put everything underwater. In fact if you put stuff deeper, it gets MORE hit points when you add on reinforced wall sections. I keep the solar panels as close to the surface as possible, but not above the waterline. Eventually when I make a really deep base I have to rely on bio-reactors and nuclear power, which is not a bad thing.

Its working ok as long as i reinforce it enough, i had breaking issues at first too. Although looking down the ladder into the lower under water part from the above water part it looks like the lower part is filled with water, as in i can see waves/water and hear water as if it was filled. But when i click to use the ladder and i appear at the bottom everything is ok and not water filled, its a glitch for sure.

And you can get nuclear???? wow.

Im still in the dark ages apparently i have alot to do still. I just made the big sub and and havent even got the prawn suit yet, i think i missed some stuff in the big mother ship i need to explore it again, i ran out of battery for the push cannon thing last time.

Bio and Nuclear are okay for a quick hit of extra power, but you don't really want them to be your primary power source, you should be setting up thermal as your primary source and then making a network of power relays to get it to your base(s).

There is a known bug with the water surface clipping though the base. It is planned to be fixed when they do the cleanup patch.

If you ran out of battery power in the Aurora you missed a lot. You should walk away from the Aurora with a bunch of extra batteries, they are a lot of them to loot.

EDIT: Also remember that you can pull the batteries out of other tools to swap them out. If you run out of battery in your repulser gun pull the battery from your flashlight or scanner, then put it back when you need it.
