They're more than welcome to make their own movies about Gold, Sword, or Juno, and if they do, I'll go see their movies, and I won't bitch when I don't see Americans. Omaha, on the other hand, was an American operation. If anyone should be offended, it's the British and Canadians who also were present on DDay but weren't shown at all in the movie.

Topic Summary: ABC affiliates worried enough about the FCC to pull Saving Provate Ryan
No whining out of the peanut gallery, this is the Religious Radical Right you guys want censoring the Country.
Seems to me its the Democrats trying to hide all the murders that their guy FDR ordered.

My big thing against Saving Private Ryan is it does not seem to have much to say as a movie. It borders on rediculous. It is graphic and people die but besides that it did not seem to be that great of a movie. Maybe they should show some movie like Green Bere's, Or spitfire, or any number of great classic war movies.

I for one think they should air it everywhere on every Veteran's and Memorial Day.
I think a huge problem is in this country is that people (especially younger people) think that war is a game of Halo or something like that. They have a very disjointed view of what it takes to fight a war.
Indeed. I freaked when people got upset over that nipple slip Janet Jackson made, that's just insane. Especially when the soccer moms don't bloody care about the many deaths in Iraq, because it's for freedom.
People should be subjected to it more.

You, perhaps, have experienced the cognitive development that allows you to see SPR for what it really is, a grossly accurate rendition of a truely brutal moment in world history.
Children however, have not yet had time for their consciences to develop. When seeing such a film, it immediately thrusts them into the reality that such things exist in the world. They get introduced to violence, and weakness, and greatness, and courage, and many other characteristics that take years or minutes to develop. The outright clash of emotions, experiences, strengths, and weakness, serves only as a confusing source of pointless inferences at that age. All you are doing for children is shaking their entire foundation that usually never has to deal with life and death courage, violence, and true lonelyness at that age, with exception of course.
If you are so vile and raw that you wish to take the few years of innocence that your children have, go for it you selfish bastards.
To conclude, there is something wrong with showing the film. The content shows the worst and the best of humanity for the audience to judge. The context with which a child would understand the film is quite different than an experienced adult.

In addition, Sinclair Broadcasting Corp.'s six ABC affiliates will not air the program, according to a spokeswoman for affiliate WGGB-TV in Springfield, Mass. Sinclair affiliates in North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Alabama and Massachusetts were also affected.
Yeah, no doubt, parental control of the situation is a good thing. I thought it was to air at 8pm though?Originally posted by: Geekbabe
