Moonbeam:

I'm offended.

Your last post has altogether too many T's and A's.

Please circumscribe your excessive use of the vile consonants.

I have seen Saving Private Ryan and it is awful graphic for small children. However, if it is shown around 10:30 I see nothing wrong with that.

My big thing against Saving Private Ryan is it does not seem to have much to say as a movie. It borders on rediculous. It is graphic and people die but besides that it did not seem to be that great of a movie. Maybe they should show some movie like Green Bere's, Or spitfire, or any number of great classic war movies.

I guess you missed the part about how some people gave their lives so 3/5 of the world has at least some freedoms.

WCVB in Boston!, I said again, BOSTON has decided not to run the movie. That's right, the ABC affiliate in the most liberal state in the nation has wimped out.

I sent them a nice email stating I'll be getting all my local programming from WBZ, the local CBS affiliate.

"Is this the same FDR that tried to overthrow the Supreme Court and imprisoned Japanese Americans?"

That's a good point but I fear my allotment of T's and A's is running thin an I can't fully answer. I only got enough for remarking "nobody's perfect." I don't wish Chess9 on my behind.

If anyone should be offended, it's the British and Canadians who also were present on DDay but weren't shown at all in the movie.
They're more than welcome to make their own movies about Gold, Sword, or Juno, and if they do, I'll go see their movies, and I won't bitch when I don't see Americans. Omaha, on the other hand, was an American operation.

As a historical sidenote, those of you who were paying attention during the opening of SPR (or while playing Medal of Honor) might have noticed a blue and gray emblem on the shoulders of many of the men landing on the beach. That's the insignia of the 29th Infantry Division, and those men were National Guardsmen. Some of you might want to rethink that whole "stay at home and guard the borders" thing.

If showing blood and guts on TV is "okay" then why is this thread about "censoring" the airing of SPR on some network affiliates?

The movie is good, we own it, and if you all are missing it on ABC you can still rent it.

I guess you mean the mere threat of the FCC, as they didn't do a thing regarding the airing of the SPR movie.

You, perhaps, have experienced the cognitive development that allows you to see SPR for what it really is, a grossly accurate rendition of a truely brutal moment in world history.

Children however, have not yet had time for their consciences to develop. When seeing such a film, it immediately thrusts them into the reality that such things exist in the world. They get introduced to violence, and weakness, and greatness, and courage, and many other characteristics that take years or minutes to develop. The outright clash of emotions, experiences, strengths, and weakness, serves only as a confusing source of pointless inferences at that age. All you are doing for children is shaking their entire foundation that usually never has to deal with life and death courage, violence, and true lonelyness at that age, with exception of course.

If you are so vile and raw that you wish to take the few years of innocence that your children have, go for it you selfish bastards.

To conclude, there is something wrong with showing the film. The content shows the worst and the best of humanity for the audience to judge. The context with which a child would understand the film is quite different than an experienced adult.

I for one think they should air it everywhere on every Veteran's and Memorial Day.

I think a huge problem is in this country is that people (especially younger people) think that war is a game of Halo or something like that. They have a very disjointed view of what it takes to fight a war.

Indeed. I freaked when people got upset over that nipple slip Janet Jackson made, that's just insane. Especially when the soccer moms don't bloody care about the many deaths in Iraq, because it's for freedom.
People should be subjected to it more.

That was not a Slip, That was On Q! Apparently rated very highly on Tivio?s service .... Like you thought Tivo was not monitoring your viewing habits?

If you are going to phreak over that... Just wait another year or so when these Religious phreaks start telling David Letterman that his jokes are too radical you know kind of why Howard Stern is now on serious satellite... It's only a matter of time. Remember who you phreaks voted for.

1. they should at least play a good movie. listen, the first 20 minutes =good filmmaking. (i have read it highly undermined due to certain artistic "borrowing") but the rest of the film plays out like an extra-long episode of A-team. sorry, just how i feel. id more like to see something like band of brothers on there.
2. censorship is dumb dumb dumb
3. howard stinks.
3a. siruis radio stinks.
3b. o&a have been doing their XM show for a month or so now. still very funny/creative. and their listeners have yet to spontanious combust because they can actually curse.
4. didnt some republican senator not too long ago get super-upset about schindlers list being aired on television? (i think he was from the midwest)
5. to me, censorship seems to remove responsibility on the part of the indivdual, an problem of increasing importance in this country, i think. if you dont want your child watching, dont let them. if you dont want them to misunderstand what is happening, talk to them. its like all these censorship people dont remember being a child at all...did anything really destroy your universe as a child that you saw on tv?

It's a bogus issue, trumped up by media outlets who have sour grapes for the purpose of inciting goobs like a bunch in here to piss and moan about Bush.

Scripps Co and others like it are trying to portray a chilling creative climate, but it's all political posturing to raise a ruckus over government interference. All precedents indicate they are safe with airing SPR... just like they did twice before with no repurcussions. John McCain, who introduced the movie, said "In my estimation, the content of this film, aired in the context of a national holiday, paying tribute to veterans, and with approriate warning to parents, does not come close" [to violating FCC standards].

Even the jumpy Parents Television Council was scratching their heads over this fake controversy. I think this discussion is needed, but not this way... what a stupid move by those companies who didn't show it.

I missed where it singled out sinclair. Not that I would be surprised.
They weren't singled out. They were mentioned.

In addition, Sinclair Broadcasting Corp.'s six ABC affiliates will not air the program, according to a spokeswoman for affiliate WGGB-TV in Springfield, Mass. Sinclair affiliates in North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Alabama and Massachusetts were also affected.

Yeah, no doubt, parental control of the situation is a good thing. I thought it was to air at 8pm though?
