Wow - so 21% of the voters are certifiably insane, by their own admission.

I do think that God does speak to people, but this isn't to say that anyone who says God has spoken to them speaks the truth.

Like Religion in general, it's pretty vague and there is no real way to know for sure. I guess it's almost like life on other plantes, some dismiss it outright, others think sure they might be out there, and yet others still claim to have met them.

who knows what's true. I certainly don't have the arrogance to claim i do.

edit : hrmm stupid work keyboard.

God is not real you crazy nuts.

Actually, he does, he tells George Bush how to run the country and also granted the land which is now Israel to the Jews while playing an international real estate agent.

So since you know the 21% personally and know why they posted this, please post up your data.

I can't say God has talked to me though.

It is statements like this that I am puzzled by. Most people that don't believe in God always preach to others to be open minded, yet they say things like this.

And things like this. If a Christian were to come out and say something to someone that wasn't a Christian similiar to this (that is, something that completely attacked his/her beliefs), they would be accused of "pushing their beliefs onto them" or "shoving their own beliefs down their throat".

I am not trying to make anyone upset, just merely pointing out the way I see it as a Christian.

As for the OP, Jesus talks to me quite often, though not the way you are thinking probably. It is not audible, but on a deeper level. It is really impossible for me to fully explain it, but when He speaks, it is clear.

If you are curious, have you ever tried talking to God? In the New Testament of the Bible Jesus said if you open the door He will come in. So in other words if you genuinely seek Him He will answer you. It may not be the way you want to be answered, and it may not be right away, but He will .

the truly ironic part of this thread is if some of those with the mindsets above had control of a nation...

For the most part thost that believe in something don't stir the waters....however; if they don't believe they will surely try to convert you.

I have these things called "thoughts"... they usually account for everything I see/think/hear.

I was stopped once by a religious person claiming god talked to them.. but its stupid. Hear me? I'm sick of hearing this: God saved me! I talk to god all of the time!

When God' sits down and has a beer with me, then I'll believe.

Don't get me wrong, when you have this idea of a higher power.. people stop a world of crime and listen to 'its teachings' (basically all human morals) .. so if it stops a guy from stealing my wallet.. fine. If it puts someone in political power with the idea of "god saving the nation", they can just jump out of a window and hope they grow wings and fly away to heaven land themepark.

I think what she meant was she had a "Moment of Clarity" where thoughts came to her that normally, she would never ever think about. Life suddenly made sense in some nanosecond-long flash of brilliance that caught her off-guard.

That is what people usually mean when they said, "God spoke to me". No one on earth has heard God's voice.

I hear god all the time... though it could just be voices in my head, I can never tell the difference.

As far as I can tell, I have not received any audible (or inaudible) monologue from anything claiming to be a higher power.

But my guarding angel did once gave me thoughts about what to do. Certainly, my reason rejected them (and I wouldn't remember that if my reason would have give me a good or at least neutral effect).

So, next time I hope I will listen

Sure, I think he can talk to you. That being said, I don't believe everyone who says God is talking to them is really being talked to.

It's funny that the majority of people on AT believe that God actually 'replying to you' is bogus.. Perhaps a trend towards the more rational people are online these days. Don't get me wrong, (again lol) but there are some huge bogus people *cough* In this thread *cough, cough*

Yes God has spoken to me.

He told me that "F=ma" and " aSb f(x)dx = F(b) - F(a)" were all I need to know and that we should stop looking for God if we want to advance ourselves.

I had a g/f that said the same. God responded to her with actual words she said. Though im not willing to say if it actually happened or not, but she believed that he did.

She was saying she wanted you to blow her brains out....it's different

anyway...many here would be thrown out of a real debate on this issue...God has never talked to me, but those 'he' did (and he is a very loose statement) probably were experiencing more than thoughts if they were not insane.

I'm curious, to those religious:

If you were not religious up to this point, and written works were not a source of legitmate fact, how would you determine that there is a 'higher being'?
As in, if you were unaware of current/past religion, by which process of reason would you determine a being to exist akin to God?
