Has Microsoft ever stated why they won't bring the Halo franchise to PC?

That's me. So far the only Xbox game I'm waiting to play is Crackdown 3 when it's released. (Please be better than CD 2. Please!)

If it comes out for PC too then I might never buy an X1.

Prior to Halo Combat Evolved, my PC FPS loves were Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, and Half-Life (and all its derivatives CS, DOD, etc.). Likewise, also great love for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.

Halo CE was the right game at the right time, IMO. I had little interest in the Xbox until one fateful evening spent at a Halo LAN party. Maybe it was the booze or the particular group of players, but it was like a magical, balanced mash-up of the couch coop Rare shooters and intensity of PC shooters. I bought an Xbox and Halo the very next day and enjoyed YEARS of fun exploring the mechanics.

Now I will say that it's weakest aspect is basic deathmatch. The best, most exciting games in memory were CTF and other objective oriented games. The power of the weapons was tangible compared to other games. The simplified inventory system combined with the distinctive weapons and play styles guaranteed that K/D alone wouldn't win games.

Halo 2 ruined it all trying to be like other shooters.

That's odd as Halo 2 is generally praised as the best in the entire franchise. Best level design by far.

I gotta agree and say that Halo 2 is my favorite as well. Bungie knew the players would spend hours upon hours trying to reach the bottom of pits or grenade jump out of the map (I'm guilty on both accounts), so they gave us hidden skulls, secret stashes, and tons of easter eggs littered all over the outside of the "intended path". I remember the thread where someone hacked the game apart to use a noclip and found the Scarab Gun, only to spur one of the biggest hunts to figure out how to reach the damn thing. From what I remember, we had four different 500 thread topics at GameFAQs from hundreds of people posting their methods of trying to get a Banshee through the checkpoints without it despawning or trying to grenade bounce other grenades to knock the gun down.

Halo 2 gave us the same great experience as we had with the first game, then added a nice mix of new secrets on top of giving us many different ways of tackling each encounter.

I've been playing the Halo franchise since 2001 and my personal view is that Halo 2 is the weakest of the entire franchise, especially its hyper-linear level design. Critically, Halo 2 never lived up to its progenitor. I'm certain we could debate this ad nauseum and not change our minds.
