Has Roxio's CD Creator Ever Forced You To Reformat/Reinstall OS? Poll

I had something like that happen when I went to remove an older version. I'd been a avid user of EZ cd creator, but since it's been under the Roxio name it's been pretty crappy. I finally got tired of having to reboot after every cd if I wanted to burn another and my new cd-rw had come with Nero. So I went to uninstall ez-cd and rebooted. My system never came back.
Needless to say when I reinstalled my OS, Nero went on as my cd burning program. Been using Nero ever since.

Nope. But I only install Easy CD Creator, not any of the other garbage that I don't use.

I installed EZ CD 6 this past weekend and nothing out of the ordinary has happened. It even successfully burned a CD for me (I'm swearing off Nero for a while).

I really lost it when I'd fried (BSOD) the same system X 2 when I tried to install Roxio's stuff on Windows 2000 Pro, and then proceeded to hose my wife's system despite the patches they said would fix everything.

Windows 2000 + Easy CD Creator 5 Complete Install = Inoperable System

I believe it is the GoBack or whatever it was called that causes the problem. Since that experience I have only installed the CD Creator piece of any release.

EDIT: Checked Roxio's website and it was Take Two that was the culprit.

Q: Why was Take Two« removed from Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.1 and disabled by upgrades to make Easy CD Creator 5.0x compatible with Windows XP?

A: Take Two«* was developed when the Window 95 operating system and smaller hard drives were the rule. As hard disk drives grew in size it became evident that Take Two was not the best backup solution. In the case of some newer CD burners, that use USB or PCMCIA, we also found that there weren't any DOS based drivers. Since our software does its file verification and restore from DOS, on these systems the software was rendered useless. Then in our testing under Windows XP it became evident that users would not have a good experience with the application under this OS. We decided wedid not want to risk any incompatibility issues with the new Windows XP OS.

Note the sentence in bold, that not so good experience was a blue screen on reboot that you could not get past without reinstalling in most cases. Same for Win2000.

I use ezcd 4. If it works, why upgrade?

Nero for some reason gives me too many coasters. I prefer it over the other garbage.

Hey Jhill,

You mentioned a registry fix . . . can you tell me more.

Here's my situation. I had to run a repair on W2K and when it set itself up, it refuses to recognize my CD burner or DVD burner. When I come into W2K, it looks for a file associated with Easy CD-Creator 5 Basic and it seems like it won't load any CD drivers unless I feed it these files.

I tried downloading some of these files from the net and pointing it to them but it won't take them. I think it's looking for a particular file and folder structure that I can't replicate.

I've also seen some posts about Take Two. What's that?

When I hit help, it mentioned a registry error 19. So, you're post intrigued me. Help? Anyone?

Yep, version 5 nuked my Win2k and XP loads.

It's not as bad as PC Anywhere 10 though. I just cringe and turn away when it asks me to reboot after the install of PCany 10 on an XP or Win2k machine.

Lost many, many O/S loads to that flaming pile of monkey crap.

Hmm, the fix I got seemed to work but not my W2K won't come up at all.

It did for a little while but in the process of trying to at least get basic functionality so I could back things up, it decided to go haywire. Not sure why.

I noticed though, someone loaded a mIRC on my system (since all my programs were gone, including NAV and ZoneAlarm). So, I have no idea what to do.

It basically boots into W2K, goes through the "Restoring Network Connections" (which takes like 3-4 minutes) and then the window disappears and it just hangs there. Like it's about to give you the little W2K musical intro but it never gets there. It's just a blue screen (not the BSOD) with a mouse cursor.

I guess I can try safe mode and see what happens. UGH!! TORTURE!!!
