Trump has utterly destroyed any amount of grace that was left in politics.

Star Wars forever changed blockbuster film effects, with following films needing to outdo it for attention.

Trump Wars, likewise, has affected political conduct and engagement forever.

The Trump lesson learned is that you need to be bombastic, in order to stand out and engage followers.

A very dangerous precedent has been set.

well, we can only hope that Trump is thoroughly trounced in the popular vote--as it looks like the EC will deliver its own thorough beatdown for him. A popular vote landslide should deliver enough of a message to the GOP that this kind of nonsense simply isn't tolerable outside the bubble of their internal party shitshow that was the GOP primary. Trump won there, obviously, but a general election beatdown would be a message that there is a very real problem concerning the disconnect between the GOP and the country as a whole.

....well, should. McCain/Palin was a landslide against the GOP, a campaign that brought out the birther movement and race-baiting that hadn't really been seen for some time...but things only got worse. And all this despite a consistent and very real improvement in the economy and job prospects of the majority of Americans throughout the Obama presidency.

It seems to me that the public has been thoroughly conditioned to ignore the facts on the ground in favor of their preferred-party messaging. Or, at the very least, the extreme minority of people can be effectively mobilized to yell the loudest. Even so, I think the message of desperation that many seem to believe reflects some real version of the US is going to be drowned out by the reality of the vote count.

The genie is out of the bottle.

Thanks to Trump - and his Trumpeters - there is no turning back.

Trump's Achilles heel is his personal treatment of women and minorities, not his outrageous campaign conduct.

Future candidates, who do not have such a dirty background, will thrive on bombastic campaigns.

Bombastic-ness is what sells nowadays.

Well the Duggar (incest) family has come out in favor of Trump (while condemning his lifestyle). This is a strong indicator that he has locked in the bottom of the barrel scum vote. I guess we will find out how deep the scum is in the bottom of America's barrel....

24 hour news das been dumbing down people since it's inception. It's only after decades of stupification that Trump was able to run for office and not be laughed off the stage.

It lends itself to lots of sensationalism & shoddy journalism, doesn't it? Lots of speculation & conspiracy theorizing, too.

Who's been exploiting that for decades? Republicans. Take a look at the last 8 years. I can't even remember all of it. Birtherism. Fast & Furious. Benghazi. IRS. Emails. Video fakery. Add a lot of deliberately debilitating the govt in general, even to the point of undermining foreign policy in more ways than one. Throw in some gun grabber action, some FEMA camps, Some Jade Helm, some voter fraud, race baiting & genuine economic insecurity to round out the effort. Tell us it's a lot worse than it really is to get the negativity flowing. Tell us to be afraid.

They've been crazifying people nonstop.

Oh, yeh- and Barney Frank caused the housing bubble. You betcha.

I can't believe how the establishment is rallying behind Trump at this late hour in an attempt to salvage their race for the White House. Anything goes I suppose no matter how egregious it might be.

They're just trying to prevent slaughter down the ticket.

Trump may be the symptom and not the cause, but he has shown that the bravado bs rhetoric sprinkled with lies, empty promises, and exaggerations works. The biggest loudmouth liar wins the primary. Has anybody seen the republican primaries this year? Total shitshow completely devoid of reality even if you pretend Trump wasn't there. I expect the primaries to get even worse making it practically impossible for any sane candidate to win. If republican establishment has any sort of sense they will however see that a candidate like this is totally unelectable, so what I think is going to happen is that the new standard for primaries will be to nominate the craziest loon possible that is still electable in the general election. Basically we'll have the continued race to the bottom. Yeah... I'm getting sad just writing this.

Yes.

absolutely

It hardly matters though. Over 400 parts per million and unlikely to ever go down below that for quite a while.

Well I was in this thread supporting Trump and if you think you were sad before now you can be overjoyed Trump will do great work. The public like me has come out of hiding and spoken during the election, now Trump will be President. Just remember all of you that I spoke to, be nice and stay smart.

Maybe Ted can be at his inauguration and stand up before the entire world and reenact his man junk speech for us all. When I saw him do that I was reminded of when Charlton Heston was in the net in the movie Planet of the Apes and said to his captors 'take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape". I know what planet I live on now for the next four years (probably more like 8 unless he really steps on it).

1) Prosperity and the resulting focus on secondary issues dumbs down politics.
2) Dumbed down politics ends prosperity and creates a period of crisis.
3) Crisis and the resulting focus on important issues wises up politics.
4) Wise politics ends crisis and creates a period of prosperity.

This forum was heavily leaning Clinton, so QQ.

You guys really love your huffington post news articles, polls, op-eds and everything else that "must be true because it was on the internet"

Really whats happened is that in order to he hip and with it MSM has adopted the same reporting style as the internet and we all know how reliable the internet is when you need the truth. There is a reason you still can't cite wikipedia.

This forum is mostly city slickers who are educated.
There are a lot of immigrants and foreigners here too.
This demographic is more or less the opposite of what you would find at a trump rally.

Not sure I'd brag about that "come out of hiding". It was a victory, but a narrow one.
When politicians compete a win is a win throughout the USA history. In life there is winning and loosing that is just the way it is.
