Rumours are saying the 29th and I believe it. Some online shops that have preorders for DDR4 have the available date as the 29th. Makes sense as consumer DDR4 is useless without X99 right now. 10 days!

Remember all those scares of DDR4 costing 2-3x more than DDR3?

$77 premium and dropping. And that DDR3-2400 is rated at 1.65V which is not optimal for Haswell anyway vs. 1.2V for the new DDR4. In 1 year's time, DDR4 should ramp up clocks and density and prices will drop to make DDR3 irrelevant for modern builds moving forward. The countdown for DDR3 obsolescence begins.

So 4+2 means four cores, GT2 graphics.

Wonder why there are no leaked overclocking figures. Could be a bad sign for overclocking? Considering the hype about DC and still cant hit 5ghz, not looking for too much from Haswell-E either. Seems like a very limited market for the 8 core at only 3ghz and $1000.00 if it doesnt overclock to at least 4+ ghz.

Over at the Overclock site their is a user with an ES 5960X that on a beta bios and mobo got 4.3GHz and 4.5GHz out of it, so lots of potential by the sounds of it.

Maybe on Skylake-E we will see another price drop on the entry level hexcore? Though with this said I have to wonder what the smallest die will be for 14nm?

On 32nm SB-E, Intel made a specific quad core die.

Then for IV-E, Intel's smallest die was hexcore.

Haswell-E, also on 22nm has octo-core as the smallest die.

Probably Octacore. Otherwise you would have to cut too much out for 6 and 8 core versions.

I would hope for 8 core die as well, but I just wonder if the multi-socket server market wants more than 8 cores as a minimum for 14nm?

(With that mentioned, I know nothing about the multi-socket server market)

Being able to boot at 4.3GHz to 4.5GHz with 1.3V doesn't mean much to me. There needs some actual system stress tests performed before I get my hopes up.

What kind of power consumption are we looking at?

Let's say the 8 core Haswell at gets between 4.0-4.5 GHz. Say 1.3V core? How much power is it going to use on Linpak? Essentially double the 4790K at any given clock?

Reading that thread at OCN with the 5960X at 4.5ghz and 1.3V he saw 90C under load using a AIO water cooling system.

I'd guess at least 250W with 1.3V, maybe more, and you need to use custom water cooling for reasonable temperatures. I'm good with it, just glad to know there is a real possibility high clock rates are feasible with ample cooling.

I'm not big into water cooling. I was going to get a 360mm AIO, but none exist. I'm just going to use my existing H110 and sandwich the radiator with four SP140 fans.

It's too much hassle and possible risk for 24/7 use imo. I have 1200mm2 of radiator and I think this will be more than enough to keep temperatures within a sane threshold. I think phase change is still for the ultra extreme as a cooling option.
