I always thought HT was fused off in i5s (or E3-122x v3s, in this case). If it's turned off in microcode, it seems like exploits that enable HT would be everywhere by now.

Hmm... checking Asus' website reveals that perhaps this version is already unavailable. It shows version 0215 with a June date, but perhaps that's the date posted to web, not the build date. I wonder.

Don't know if this means anything to anyone since I'm not normally up with the various benchmarks, but here is what I got from running the PassMark CPU tests:

It's very definitely threaded.. Almost identical to my 6 core 12 threaded Xeon L5639 @ 3.6Ghz ..


That chip should OC with bclk easily.. Pretty impressive.. Got a batch number off that chip?

They're $227 on Newegg or ebay..

Go to page 4. There is a "yes" in the table cell for Hyperthreading and the Xeon E3-1225 V3.

Ark says no, "Platform Brief" says yes. That's a pretty tempting deal for essentially a Haswell i7, if the OP's CPU is not an outlier.

The E3-1225v2 did NOT have HT.

Apparently, Intel shipped out a batch of these Xeons with Hyperthreading enabled.

If you're a gambler, it is a risk worth taking to purchase one of these babies right now. At the worst, you get an overpriced 4570.

HT isnt physically shut off, it is just turned off by greed and microcode.

I know a guy who used to write BIOS/microcode for CPU's and he knows how to turn it on

Funny how documents are against you.

This is not in microcode, not in BIOS. Its was simply a batch shipped with HT physically enabled and a new version will be released with it shut off. And old versions will keep HT on ofcourse.

According to the PCN, there are different SKUs for the retail chips.

No reason to gamble, if you want one buy from a vendor that lists specific Sspecs or SKUs

The S-Spec number is on every single CPU package. So knowing SR14U and SR1KX is enough.
