Saw it yesterday and was surprised there wasn't a thread already.

My feelings are mixed.

We've already been through this song and dance so many times with a number of games (Mortal Kombat, Postal, GTA, etc.). I don't think the public outcry is going to carry as far as it would have 10 years ago.

Do you guys think Steam will sell it? I'm willing to bet we see it on there.

Either this game is being made by an angsty 12-year-old, or this is brilliant satire.

Good thing Jack Thompson lost his legal license or whatever. But I'm sure Fox News/other mainstream media will totally eat it up, more fuel for politicians to push for restrictions on violent video games I'm sure.

I'll buy it if it's fun.

The one reaction I refuse to have is the one I am pretty sure the creators are counting on. I'd like to think it is the latter of your two choices: a completely brilliant dark satire on the whole violence/porn subculture in our society. Or it could be nothing more than a completely cold-blooded attempt to cash in on the predictable outrage and free PR.

Someone mentioned in another forum that the creator of this game was a big liberal and the purpose of it was to act as fodder for anti-gamer and/or anti-gun campaigns. No idea if that theory has any truth to it yet though, might have just been rumor or hearsay.

I heard a rumor they were neo-nazis, so both of these rumors probably don't hold water.

Huh? I don't see a difference in the level of violence between this game or any other shooter on the market. What makes this any worse?

Sounds pretty nonsense to me. I'm guessing this is a combination of satire and/or cashing in on publicity through shock value.

Context makes the difference. If the amount of violence remained the same, but instead the game took place in a foreign country shooting brown people, no one would be angry.

We did this exact same song & dance with Postal when it first came out. The premise is pretty much identical, and the gameplay is almost identical as well with it's isometric perspective.

It's an interesting concept...it basically sets up the story line to let you be the movie theatre shooter / columbine shooter, without having to create a MOD or fantasize about it yourself with your own story lines.

Call of Duty dabbled in it not too long ago with the airport massacre.

Look at Grand Theft Auto...you are basically a mass murderer there, killing and running over people, getting to live out sick fantasies of crazy no holds bar straight up murder

Is postal or Hatred....really much different? I don't think it is.

Yet when the opening cinematic openly states your intent to murder innocents...now we get up in arms about it?

i think the outcry is going to be a lot bigger considering the recent anti-gun drivel.

I think it's cool that Nathan Explosion got his own game. The other band members were holding him back.

When I first saw that video and heard him talking the first thing I thought was 'That's so Brutal!' I hope that come out with a Murderface DLC.

I liked the original Postal, it got boring fairly quickly, but it was straight forward kill everything. I know you can kill everything in GTA, but Postal was the 1st game I remember where killing everyone was the objective. Sequels were good with all the added dark humor. This could be a game I'd buy if it was priced right. Post 2 you could put a cat on a gun and use it as a silencer lol. I love cats but that always cracked me up.

I think this game looks disgusting, and I'm finding it hard to believe so many people on this form seem to be into the premise of the game. They can make whatever they want, but if there is an actual market for this game, then that is what frightens me.

I will say I'd rather they do it in a game than irl. Myself, I tried Postal years ago multiple times and I couldn't stomach it. Something about it just made me uneasy. Same thing happens when I watch Saving Private Ryan. There's no 'good' feeling at all just unwarrented death.

Of course in 99% of games you are killing something, but it is usually for 'good' and rarely for no reason other than just to kill (even evil has a reason beyond, everyone must die).

I wouldn't wax so apocalyptic. There's always a market when you're willing to step outside the bounds of convention and produce something that horrifies or awes in some way. I'll wager that's been going on for as long as there has been art. I doubt anything we do will get us close to the societal level of horrible-weird that Japan has reached, and I don't think they have a higher incidence of mass murder.

I apologize. I had just watched that video for the first (and likely last) time, and it struck an emotional nerve. It sickened me. I'll just stay away from discussions on this game because even though I thought I was ok to post on the subject after a few minutes to calm down, thinking about it again is making me feel sick again.

Well, homicidal mutant sex tentacles are hard to come by.
