I was just in Comp USA as they were stocking the Hauppauge PVR150 on the shelf as I was looking at there capture devices. I asked if it was comming up on ad as it was odd to be stocking at 5pm Saturday and the man said yes tomarrow ( Sunday) for $69.99 but I am not sure OTD or AR but I grabbed one anyway. It has the remote and comes with ulead movie factory softwear.

I just have one question all I need is a capture device to hook a VCR up to so I can transfer VHS to DVD. I know this will do Mpeg2 but I saw a lot of USB devices that capture also and transfer from VHS also. Would I be better getting a USB 2 device to do this or put this card in.

I receintly picked up one of these for $100 It is a very nice card. Excellent quality capture with only about 20% cpu usage when encoding with a 2gHz XP processor.

From the Hauppauge web site "Composite/S-Video and audio inputs, to connect to VCR or camcorders. Turn your home video tapes into MPEG movies, then burn them onto CD or DVD!"

I'm not sure but Radio Shack should have the cable you need.

Good luck.

Yep, the heck with CrapUSA. I opted for the CC one to replace my Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro. Not much of an upgrade. Difference in playback quality isn't noticeable, but the hardware encoding ability gives me a decent PCVR for ~$70. If you don't have a TV card, you'll love this one, if you do, then this isn't a huge upgrade...Darned AT Hot Deals costing me so much money.

O BTW - One nice feature I hadn't read about is that it has a scheduler that automatically interfaces with the TitanTV channel listings, so you can just go to that website click on your favorite programs and it'll schedule itself to record them. Pretty easy.

It's a huge upgrade if you are using a a software card like the wintv go etc.. wintv 2000 doesn't give that great of quality recordings. Sage tv, beyond tv is much better.

Buying 2 of these saves you a little $ and is probably slightly better supported (for now), but granted that MCE2005 supports the dual-tuner cards just fine.

...Anyone have info on the capture resolution? I have a TV Wonder VE that captures at X*240 and was hoping this would be a good upgrade. Also, how is this card with weak signals b/c my TV Wonder VE has horrible vertical banding on weak channels, so I'm currently using an old VCR for tuning (connected to TV Wonder VE's composite input).

The 150 card is the new version of the older classic 250 card. The reviews are excellent on it. May still be a few driver kinks but most people love it. My guess is they will halt production on the older 250 card sometime this year. I just pought a 250 card and may just jump on this deal also.

Looks like you can have CC match the price of $89 AIR from CompUSA then after the $30 CC MIR your net price would be $59.

VCR to VCR = double degradation with more degradation with each playback
VCR to Capture card = single degradation with none further

My CC is out of cards so I guess I am stuck with my Comp USA card. They are out of them also as I was in there Sunday at 2pm and they were gone so I am glad I got mine on Saturday with price adjustment.

Picked one up at CC, they gave me no trouble pricematching it to CUSA. =$88-30=$58 AR and i was gonna buy the MCE version... i did like that it seemed to be lower profile. any one know the difference between the 150 and the 150 MCE, it seemed to me that they are the same thing but the 150 has the WinTV software and the MCE doesnt.
anything else different.

ahhh thanks i forgot about that cause i already have the same remote from my wintv-go+ so that wasnt on my mind... still i think at $58+tax this is better than what the MCE can be found for right?

-edit
BTW, i just installed this thing, I love it compared to my WinTV-Go+, no audio sync issues, i can do more stuff while watching and recording, it has "live" pause built into the software (not the best, but till i spring for beyond TV, or build my MythTV box the bundled software is pretty good. also just live TV looks better, i havent tried my PS2 through the S-Video in yet, but its hooked up.
now the question is, do i keep my case cool, or put the wintv-go back in for dual tuner?

(btw, i was actually able to watch tv on my notebook, simply by remote desktopping on my wireless connection, its not an optimal solution, but with the wintv-go, i could only watch, not hear. hopefully Beyond TV will solve that.)

Have you hooked up a VCR and transfered the tape to the HD yet? This is what I want it for but have read varring reviews about the quality of the transfers. Mine is still sealed so I am trying to research this a bit more before I install and have to eat the card.

Could you hook a VCR up and toss a VHS tape in and recored to see how it does?

nah, i havent tried that, i have a really nice sony vcr collecting dust in the basement, dont even have one set up near the computer. I did try hooking up the PS2 to the svideo port, and it looked good... but got me scared. i thought my ps2 was messed up, id press a button, and it would react like 2 seconds later. which confused me caues my old wintv go, and tvwonder could do it... i think its due to the hardware encoder. so no video games through this thing...

After purchasing one of these cards this week I have already recorded 6 VHS tapes and transferred them to DVD. The quality is OK as far as I can tell. When I flip back and forth between the VHS and DVD on myTV, I see no significant difference in quality. The WinTV application did record the overscan (squggles around the edges of the picture) but I think there is a function to remove it. I just did not mess with it as it does not bother me.

I heard they had some problems with motherboards with a VIA chipset, but there should be a patch for that.

The one problem I had: WinTV does not get along well InterVideo. It took some doing to get them to coexist.

The PS2 better work well with this, it's half the reason I bought the card. I've already cut out the UPC code for the MIR so I guess I'll try it out and if it doesn't work well, I'll have to talk to CompUSA.
