For people having problems with the Roslyn cards, have you tried calling Hauppauge tech support ? I know this is an OEM card so they may not help, but I have found some helpful tech support guys over there, so you may just want to give it a shot.

The other alternative is to hop over to the SHSPVR forums to get some unofficial tech support.

Nothing has been announced officially, but I can almost bet that after Sage 2.0 is released, the trial version will also be upgraded to Sage 2.0

Sage 2.0 is so much better than Sage 1.4 that it would be suicidal for Frey not to let people try that out

Oh BTW, Sage 2.0 is going to be a FREE upgrade for anyone who purchases Sage 1.4 now. This has been announced officially.

have you heard rumors about the price if you buy 2.0 after it's released?

No, but given that SageTV's biggest competitor BeyondTV is now selling for 50 bucks, I would doubt if Sage will increase the price anymore. So my guess is that at least the core SageTV program will continue to be sold for $60 or less, but there might be other modules that are sold separately for a price.

Again this is just my guess ... there has been no official announcements on the pricing, though Sage founders have hinted on the selling separate "modules" idea.

As far as I am concerned, the "beta" in current Sage 2.0 beta is not justified ... it is way better than many released products that I have tried out. So if you like Sage, go register it and get the 2.0 beta ... you won't be disappointed

Just a follow up for everyone:

Went out and bought a PVR-250 retail version, Put it in, loaded the drivers, loaded SageTV 1.41 and bang! I'm all set. All works just fine. Life should always be this simple.

Confucious says:

Sometimes a great price is not the best deal.

It is FREE for them too ! Basically, ANY registered user of 1.4 is going to get 2.0 for free when it is released (until then they can try out the 2.0 beta releases)

Mines stranger. Loaded the drivers no problem. The AMcap feature worked, but with no sound (no PVR software yet). I then loaded Snapstream (BYTV) 3.4.4. During the setup phase it found the card, auto setup the channels, then nothing. Would not show the video, and no sound at the final step. needless to say it didn't work at all beyond that (live TV, etc.)

Think I'll return it for another model. Spent too much time on it now as it is.

I got the same exact behavior you described.
I already have an RMA number to reutrn it for the right model.

I may go the extra step and install a new HD to my machine and put a clean load of XP on and see if I can get it working.

Last night I installed MCE 2004 on a clean partition, this seems to work pretty good with the Roslyn card. I expected better quality but it is probably the cable connection more that anything else.

I still cannot get BeyondTV to run on that same partition, I get an error about creating the Live TV graph

DAMNIT!

I sent back my Rosyln card to Z-Buy after calling them, confirming they had 32552 cards in stock and getting an RMA number.

Today I get an email saying "We do not have any HA32552 on stock. We will give you full refund for this item, and also we will give you postage refund."

This is NOT acceptable!

:-(

I sooooo wanted a dual tuner 'matched' setup. . . .

Here's a question: I have SageTV setup to record shows 30 seconds before they start. The shows I am recording are kid's shows that only last 20 minutes, yet Sage will record them until the end of the hour or half hour.

This creates all kinds of conflicts when trying to record another show with a 30 second 'before they start' if the next show is the very next one. (example, 1 show records 8:29:30 - 9:00:00, and I cannot record the next show at 8:59:30 - 9:30:00).

What I need is to start recording 30 seconds BEFORE the show starts and stop recording 5 minutes (or so) BEFORE the end of the show.

Any solutions? Should I set my PC's clock 1 minute fast and uncheck the 'synchronize PC clock with Sage' ??

Dave

Stupid Roslyns. I ordered the BTV / PVR-250 combo, but after it's all installed, I can't get the setup to record at 640x480; it'll do 320x480, 480x480, and even 720x480, but not the actual useful resolution I want. And it doesn't even matter if the problem is with the drivers or the BTV app; nothing else supports the Roslyn, not the Happauge WinTV application, not WinTVCap, not VirtualVCR, nothing except for a handful of other full-weight PVR applications. If Snapstream can't get my 640 issue taken care of, the whole shebang is going right back, and I'm still tempted to return it anyhow, on the grounds that I can't use any other application to do AVI recordings any more.:|

The Roslyn should have never been released.

i recorded a show tonight using sage and the retail pvr250 adn it will play back video/audio in win media player but will not un-mute for the world in the sage player. that's the only file that has that problem. I thought sage was supposed to be pretty good. I think my vcr, although the 'quality' isn't there, is more reliable for MUST SEE tv

In all fairness, the only program that Hauppage officially supports this card on (WinXP MCE) works perfectly.
Yes, but other companies are selling them with unfounded garuntees that they work elsewhere. Like I said, I bougt the combo straight from Snapstream, and it's by no means working correctly.

Can't really say I've had any trouble with mine. SageTV is working great. The Hauppage drivers only support one Roslyn card right now, but one of their developers is going to let me know when there's a testing version available.

If you're having a lot of trouble, one of their developers seems to hang out in the shspvr forums. There's alreay a newer version of the Roslyn driver posted over there (2.96). You might try it out, see if it clears up your BeyondTV troubles.

I'm actually already using the new drivers(22090), so I'm waiting to hear back from BTV's support department. I'm just upset that this isn't working out of the box like it should.

This isn't the first time I've heard of BTV not working properly. Luckily, SageTV works just fine.

A question regarding SageTV. I'm using ver. 1.4 and it's odd to say the least. As soon as I click on Live TV, it begins recording! There is no Record start or stop button to be found. What the heck? This one behaviour is a complete turnoff. Heh. Perhaps I have missed something.

It also completely ignores my IR control. Even though I click on 'Configure IR control', it states later in the setup,'No remote'.

Can a Sage guru lend a hand?

The card itself is working fine.

Yea yea, quiet you. Sage's bundle was $30 more expensive, not to mention I like BTV a bit more, so it seemed like a good deal at the time. I'll get this working or get my money back, otherwise I'll hand in my Geek Card.

Sage records everything you watch. Has to do with how these cards work. Basically, you can watch in preview mode or record in Mpeg2 mode. Sage elects to record everything, to cover itself incase you want to record something you've already started watching.
