Well, finally I've gotten my PVR-250 working with SAGE. Both Sage and PVR-250 are picky as to teh order of hte application installation. At least it was for me. I've had to rebuild my Windows XP machine 3 times to get it working correctly.

Install XP - Go to Windows update and get All Critical and Recommended updates (DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE DRIVERS FROM MICROSOFT - PERIOD. That goes for NIC Drivers, VIA Drivers, etc... It's a BAD , BAD Thing. (This was hte first time I was forced to rebuild).

Load Motherboard Drivers, if needed. Get the ones from your MB Manufacturer !!

Install latest drivers for the PVR-250. Up till this point it was an Unknown device in Device Manager

Install FFDSHOW, Quicktime, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and other DVD software. ALso, Load DVD/CD Burner software. heck Load everything else up EXCEPT THE PVR-250 and SAGE Software !!!!

Install the PVR-250 software (except the driver on the CD). Just run each application individually, DON'T RUN SETUP.EXE !!! (This was the Third time I had rebuild).

Last but not least - Install SageTV, Configure, and use.

All the other times I installed I was getting MPEG2 Errors, Freezing Video, Broken Sound, No sound, etc... This last time, works like a charm. Thanks for the clear insrtuctions.... Just kidding...It was partly an I/O ERROR (Idiot Operator), or an I-D-10-T Error LOL

Umm ... no. Actually 250MCE and Blackbird are DIFFERENT cards. As long as you are using them with Sage, you don't need to care ... but just for the record the 250MCE seems to be more versatile in terms of driver support and more apps support it.

The card dr150 posted above is the Blackbird AKA Roslyn ... NOT a 250MCE or a rgular 250.

Well, I don't think I'm ever going to understand what the difference between these cards are. From the faq on shspvr:

Q: I have new Model 28xxx board but dosen't work with any other 3rdparty
software tools like BeyondTV or SageTV why that?.
A: This new Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250MCE OEM (Roslyn) model 28xxx base on
Conexant BlackBird Design so plases keep in mind that no budddy support
this other then Windows Media Center Edition rigth now.

I realize that statement is outdated as far as support, but I'm assuming the chipset explanation is still valid. So the MCE is a Roslyn and Blackbird, but is different than the non-MCE Roslyn/Blackbird? Meanwhile then PVR250 model 180 uses a design altogether different and has nothing to do with Roslyn and Blackbird?

btw, whoever is answering questions in that FAQ needs to brush up on their spelling. Thats a lot of typos in that answer!

Damn. I just ordered it. Does this thing have FM radio? Otherwise it's a deal-breaker for me and I have to cancel my order.

Please advise............

If you got the Roslyn card, FM works in Media Center Edition, not sure about anything else.

Yes, that FAQ is indeed outdated as far as information on the software support for goes Roslyn/Blackbird goes. Both SageTV 2.0 and BeyondTV 3.4.4 supports this card ... and so does Windows XP MCE 2004 edition.

As for the difference between 250, 250MCE and Roslyn/Blackbird ... please read this thread entirely. This has all been discussed.

Roslyn and Blackbird are one and the same thing. Technically speaking though, "Blackbird" is the name of a new generation hardware reference design by Conexant on which the "Roslyn" (and some other cards i.e. AverMedia M150 etc) are based. "Roslyn" is Hauppauge's internal name for their card based on the "Blackbird" reference design.

From an end user point of view, all these cards are basically the same. The 250 and 250MCE are based on an old design which has been around for a couple years (at least) ... so there is much more software support for these. The Roslyn is based on this Blackbird design, which is much newer, hence the software support for it is lacking.

Please read this entire thread if you want to know more about the finer differences between these cards.

Anyone know of any software that will let me record radio with this card? The software that comes with it won't let you record radio

I contacted Sage about their bundle. Apparently their bundle has no support for the FM radio and comes with no other ancilliary software to make it run.

If I bought the Sage bundle, does anyone know where & how much the software would be for the FM radio to work?...................

I just saw this thread and regret that I didn't see it earlier.
Seems like the deal is not as hot as before.
The blackbird card is now $101 at z-buy.com and $95 at cnetpc.com.
So, according to my understanding of this 10-page thread.
The card being sold at z-buy and cnetpc is a new design (2852) with an integrated audio and video chip (23880) but the same MPEG encoding chip (23416) as the one in old/regular PVR-250 (32552).
This card is so new that it only work in MCE and BTV 3.4.3. For Linux, one needs to get driver from shspvr.com
Am I right?

I think the new card works in all the major pvr apps except mythtv. gbpvr had some audio issues with it last time I visited that forum a few days ago though.

I still haven't decided which card to get or which pvr app to use.
