respectable... actually really good for the casual user. i just stuck this in my extra computer and use it for recording shows while im out. quality with the included software is really pretty good with my sempron 2400+ with low cpu usage. i tried using it with beyond tv 3.51 and its really not good enough for it. but i record with sofware divx without problems. i paid $20 after $20 rebate.... for $20 shipped i might buy a second

well check out the anantech guide to building a PVR with this! I had no idea you could, i have one right now and i'm going to order another one for recording while watching other stuff. 512 ram and a 2500+ should work fine i'm guessing. the reviews said they were surprised how much they could do with the low end card.

I've heard good things about this card around this forum. DO A SEARCH.

The "GO" model is AFAIK their lowest-end PCI capture/tuner model these days.
No remote, and no stereo tuner, but other than that, the price is nice for a cheap entry-level card. No S-Video input either.
You can find cards with all three of those additional features for not a lot more, if you look around. That said, driver support from Hauppauge is actually pretty good in terms of updates, even if they do slip up and release a buggy set new and again. My ancient WinTV (no additional model suffix) is still supported too.

*EDIT* Ok so im a little slow didn't relieze the name changed until i saw order form for surplus computers LOL

I couldn't find reseller ratings that kinda scared me, but for $20 i figured what the heck. Even if i couldn't get this to record on my computer to divx (with 2.2ghz/400 768 RDRAM, I know im in the process of building a new comp >_<), i should still be able at least watch tv from time to time.

Anyone run this model with MythTV, MCE, etc. tv recording OS's. I have a amd 2000+ w/ 512 MB ram and no harddrive that i was thinking about turning into a PVR box or whatever, i'm just wondering how big of a hard drive should suffice if i could save everything into divx format. I don't watch much TV i'm talking maybe like 8-10 shows that air an hr a week, almost half of which are Sci-fi, and maybe an additional hr a day for a news show. For minimal use like i sorta described im wondering if 80-160GB would work ok. I'm just trying to use as little money as possible, paying for school AND trying to get computer stuff kills the wallet XD.

Thanks for reading my rant'n'rave.

Yeah, a 160GB should do fine, as long as you don't plan on keeping any shows, and don't let a few weeks back up on you.

i have this model.

and the ati tv wonder.

this hauppauge is WAY better. the software from the company was updated for free using Dscaler algorithms. tv wonder software blows. just read abou their new HDTV "Blunder" (wonder). they cant do software.

if you dont know what dscaler is, just buy this, trust me. i own both. Hauppauge is the only tv tuner I would buy.

mono only. but you wont find a better tuner for anywhere NEAR this price.

an incredibly stable card with exceptional software.

if you want TV on your PC, you'd be a fool not to buy this.

just my 2sense.

Just another THUMBS UP on this card. I have one, my Dad has an older WinTV original, and I've got some other TV cards around. This WinTV-GO is nice for the money.

I'm thinking about getting this but I'm functionally illiterate when it comes to my computer. I have a Dell Dimension 4600 that's a P4 2.8 with 512MB DDR RAM and with an Nvidia 5500 video card with 128MB RAM.
Basically I'm looking for some easy recording functions. Can you set it to record a certain channel at a certain time? Not necessarily a program guide along the lines of a TiVo, just something akin to the way you used to program a VCR? And how hard is it to install MythTV?
Is this easy enough for a technological novice?
Thanks,
Chris

You can do everything that you want in Windows using the Hauppauge software. There is no reason for a novice like yourself to even consider MythTV -- it is definitely NOT for you.

This is assuming you can even install this card in your computer and get it working in Windows, of course. But I think you can do that.

Just don't even think about MythTV and Linux for now.

all depends on quality, but look at the guide, they have some screen shots that 57gb will get you about 15hours of record time.... i could be reading that wrong though.
