My WinTV-Go came in the mail today. Be forewarned that all you get is the PCI card itself, without a disk for any drivers, applications or manual, and no audio cable. The software stuff can easily be downloaded from Hauppauge, but you will have to go to Radio Shack and buy a 1/8" audio patch cable (male/male connectors).

Without the audio patch cable, you would have to connect your PC speakers to the Line Out of the WinTV card. Once you get the audio patch cable (to connect the LineOut of the WinTV card to the LineIn of your sound card, as per the instructions in the manual), then the WinTV audio will play through your regular PC audio speakers.

Mine came with an audio patch cable.
It was obvious that you were supposed to download the software from Hauppage.

Mine came with an audio patch cable.

I am glad that I posted my comment. I double-checked the box that they shipped the card in, and the audio cable was buried under the packing "pellets".

Sorry to burst bubbles here, but this card has been up on eBay for $18 Buy-it-Now with free shipping for ages now. A quick search for "wintv go" will reveal it. Comes with sound card cable too. (Still, for people who hate PayPal or need int'l shipping, this other deal is the next best thing.)

Thanks for the eBay reminder. It is indeed the best place to buy some things. But there are also advantages to buying from an established retailer.

Oh, indeed. I only mentioned it because I bought one from eBay about a month ago myself. I'm planning on building a MythTV box when I have time out of spare bits and bobs, and I think the WinTV Go will serve my needs well (but we'll see).

GB-pvr is worth a shot. So far its more touchy than btv but it did work with a guide and it is getting better.

Reading through these threads and the links, I'm not sure if this card is meant to replace your current video card, or if it just supplements it by adding a "television" to your computer. Can someone clear that up for me? Will there be a conflict between this card and my 9600 Pro?

It's an additional PCI card that lets you watch TV from your desktop. It should work fine with your 9600 Pro.

I got one of these last month, the cheap price is great, but there have been $60 for a Hauppauge PVR-150 deals floating around. The additional hardware encoder adds much more functionality. I can't seem to find software that will let me pause live TV without a hardware encoder on the TV card.

on a side note, I've been using mediportal as a freeware PVR software application, it works great except when I watch my recorded videos through the software, the video lags slightly behind the audio.

I guess for a $20 "TV" it ain't really that bad. I just need to be able to play console games and I didn't wanna spend $50 on a mini 13" TV for my room. I'll order one later. Thanks!

I don't see any analog inputs for PS2/XBos/GC/VCR. Can someone explain to me how to actually use this card to play my console games? Or might I have to spend $$ on a better card with analog inputs?

Also, I noticed on the site it says:

* TV reception requires an antenna or cable TV connection

How does one go about hooking this card to an antenna? Do you buy the antenna separately, or how does this work?

C'mon... do you know what an antenna is? It has the same 75 ohm coaxial connection as your tv. You have to hook up your tv with an antenna or a coaxial cable (to an external antenna or cable tv). This card is no different.

I've never personally owned a TV so I don't know. I know some TVs come with antennas connected to them on top, and I know that some houses have antennas on the roof that you can somehow connect to the TV. But I'm in an apartment building and I ultimately need to know when I install this tuner card whether it will work out-of-box or whether I need to somehow hook it up to one of these coaxial cables (presumably connected to an antenna on the roof?) hanging out of my wall that I haven't touched.

How's the quality of this card compare to this Leadtek one for $36? The Leadtek one comes with a remote, which would be nice I think.

does this TV tuner have red/white/yellow ports so you can play video games on your LCD? (by connecting your console to the card)

EDIT: Nevermind, it doesn't.

Does anyone know how to make it so that this card will allow me to use my monitor as a TV for my video game consoles?

I've got one of these cards running now. While I don't play games through it, I'd suspect that anything you can put through a coax will end up on your computer. Will this let yo *play * games? I dunno. Lemme know if you can. For $20 you can hardly go wrong trying.
