Excellent deal. The $60 MCE ones at amazon are OEM, and don't have the software or remote. I've been very happy with my 150 MCE (same card + FM radio tuner - remote) and recommend this card to anyone rolling their own DVR. Get this one, an OEM MCE card, and you've got yourself a dual tuner remote enabled DVR!

Can you run this card directly from your cable coax hookup or do you need to run it through a cable box if you have digital cable?

I can run it direct from the coax with Comcast, but need to run it through the digital cable box if I want digital cable channels (channels > 125).
The remote and IR blaster included make it possible to change channels on the box.

Thanks for the reply! That makes sense. You'd get basic cable without the box. The problem is that most of the channels that I watch are on the digital channels (Speed TV).

This leads to another question. I have a Comcast dual tuner DVR with a built in 120 gb hdd and I can rent it for $5 more a month than a regular old digital cable box. I also get HD channels through the dvr box. Now, is there a reason why I would get a card like this instead of just hook the dvr box directly to my pc? I can and have hooked my Comcast DVR up to my computer via Firewire to capture programming. Would the card give me anything additional?

How about if you want to save the programming, then burn it to dvd to take with you on a roadtrip or to lend to a friend to watch? Can you do that with the Comcast provided DVR?

Also, after the one time payment for the hardware, it is free (no monthly charges).

If you want to get fancy, you can turn one of your computers into an HTPC box (use a free program like Media Portal or buy Win XP MCE) and then you can do all sorts of things. Use youur computer like a TiVo (DVR, etc.), but also organize all your music, mpeg videos, pictures, and more all centrally on one computer.

Can't decide between this and the Sapphire Theatrix 550.

Both are the same price at newegg; Hauppauge is the tried and true option, but the Sapphire has better picture quality and MCE compatible remote.

I want to use one of these cards for Media Portal, any suggestions?

Comcast DVR is an extra $10/mo. (not $5) and can only hold up to 60 hours of standard programing and only 15 hours of HDTV. The service is basically for time-shifting only.

I have no experience with the Sapphire, but am very pleased with my Hauppauge PVR-150.

I found the rebate. You can get to it thru the Newegg Apecials > Rebates and then search by brand.

Yes the deal is dead now. I got it on time..

Sounds like I bought a good card. I just picked one of these up at the Best Buy grand opening in Irving, TX for $89.99 - 10% = $80.99 + tax.

Coupons were in booklet given at front door.

I also bought a Creative Zen Micro Photo 8Gb MP3 player for $168 + tax. They had 25% off their creative players and I did the 10% off thing again by ringing it up separately.

Thanks StartTech. I got in on it, but it took them a while to send it. I just now got it, and didn't see the link to the rebate.
