Amazon has the very popular Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 Media Center Edition for a low $63.64 with free shipping for a limited time.

Add TV and FM radio to your Windows XP Media Center Edition PC with the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150MCE. The WinTV-PVR-150MCE has the best video quality of any Media Center TV tuner, plus adds FM radio. The WinTV-PVR-150MCE runs under Windows XP, too! You can also use the WinTV-PVR-150MCE to watch TV in a window and record your TV shows into an MPEG format with WinTV2000, Hauppauge's TV application. Use up to two WinTV-PVR-150MCE's in a Media Center 2005 system:. Watch one TV channel while recording another by installing two WinTV-PVR-150's in a Media Center system. If you already have a Media Center system with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR, you can add a second WinTV-PVR.

Make a cheap HTPC if you have PC parts lying around, just add PVR software SageTV or BeyondTV.

Both programs allow you to stream your TV over the internet to at least 1 PC right? Or didn't one or both of them start charging licensing fees for it....or is at least one other remote view included?

What would be the best option for a remote then? I'm planning on sage or beyondtv but I was expecting to use the remote from the tuner card. Any good options with the mce ver?

Since you're using windows, the streamzap remote is pretty good. Streamzap updates their drivers fairly often, so they support a lot of applications.

Back to the original topic, I have the 150 MCE. It's not supported by all PVR apps, but the major apps support it (like SageTV and BeyondTV.) It also has the advantage of an FM tuner, although there's not much that supports FM nowadays.

Will this card work fine on Windows 2000 or Windows XP Home? I have a $40 GC at Amazon and this would be the perfect time to use it

Card works fine under XP, had no issues with drivers. Worked fine with Snapstream.

However my card seems to have been assembled poorly/screwed up.

The component inputs on the back are all out of line, the red audio in particular. The card will not line up properly in my case at all (old coolermaster vx1). I took the mobo tray out and looked over things, seems the mounting bracket of the card is just screwy...

Most likely going to send it back for a replacement. I bought mine at buy.com btw, they have it for 64.99 (I got free shipping) sold out now however.

A link would be nice.

And yes, does it work on Win 2k? I'm avoiding the bloatware that is XP as much as possible.

It works just fine in Windows 2000 as well.

Even though there is no remote in the MCE version, it is cheaper than the one including a remote.

I also want to know what the difference is between the 150 and the 250. Some have posted that the 250 does better on card compression....bla bla bla...others said no the 150 is the cheap replacement for the 250 does everything that it did.

comments from those who know ???

I heard that the PVR 250 uses separate chips for both encoding and decoding but the 150 has a combination chip which is the new direction that Hauppauge is taking w/ their products. Not sure if this is "better" per se, I'm a PVR noob myself

The 150 is basically the 250 but newer. The only difference that i have really heard of is that if you use multiple 150's the sound is not normalized the same for each card. Therefore the sound can be at different volumes. This isnt true with all the cards, just some of the problems people have reported at the sage tv forums in multiple tuner setups.

Btw, if you do this deal, get sage tv or look at the sage tv bundles with tuners. It is by far the best player out. Dont even bother with the one hauppage has. If you do, check out their forums and go to customizations. Some really cool stuff in there that people have created. Im using the Cayars17 stv. Almost allows all the customization that i want.Sage Tv forums

This is an exceptionally STUPID question but...

I saw someone at the airport watching TV on a laptop. I thought it was live TV. I did not notice some sort of antenna contraption. Was he watching recorded TV? Or do some of these "laptop tv tuners" able to acpture the signal over the air without a cable or antenna? Or do they all need a source of some sort?
