Not sure if this is a hot deal but it is the best price I have seen for this card.

This does require XP Media Center Edition but other have been using it with SAGE TV.

Keep in mind this has two tuners but only one input is RCA inputs. The second has to be coax cable.

Yes, they have similar qualty, but the 500 has 2 tuners, so you can record 2 different things at once.

can anyone with this card confirm whether it comes with a cable that gives you duplicate A/V connections for the 2nd tuner? I thought I read a post by someone somewhere stating that it comes with such a cable.. thanks in advance.

No it does not. You can get an additional bracket for a second set of inputs, but it costs about $15. Most people won't need it anyway unless using a dual external tuner/receiver setup.

People buying into this should be aware that the PCI bridge on the board is picky about motherboard; (more precisely some motherboard chipsets just aren't very good...)

I have the PVR-150mce, pvr-250 and pvr 350 and I've had no problems. I've used them all in 3 different mobos. I believe the pvr-500 is its own monster

No. PVR-500MCE is basically two PVR-150 behind a PCI bridge squeezed on a single board. The compatibility problem is between the said PCI bridge and motherboard chipset(s.) PVR-150/MCE should not have any problems.

From what I've read, it appears to affect VIA chipsets.. I don't know what others it affects... I stay away from VIA anyway, but if it affects Intel, Nforce, or AMD chipsets then that would give me cause for more concern. Hopefully it doesn't...

I have the PVR-250 now, could I add this to my rig and have three tuners? Just wondering since I would like to record multiple programs at once.

Also would anyone know if I have multiple hauppauge cards, could I control them with one remote? Or does the remote only work where the ir bulb is plugged into?

You should be able to run botht eh PVR-250 and PVR-500MCE in the same box. I currently have 3 PVR-150 working well together. The only thing is I think the PVR-500MCE might be a little picky about the motherboard's chipset since I've heard problems reported by people using them with VIA chipsets.

You should be able to control both cards using one remote.

now that I've received the PVR-500MCE from buy.com, here's an update...

the package does indeed come with a 2nd set of A/V inputs on a bracket to be installed into a PCI slot. The 2nd set is connected to the PVR-500MCE through a header on the card. Further, there appears to be TWO such headers on the PVR-500MCE, so it may be possible to order another set of A/V inputs to allow for 3 sets of inputs on 1 PVR-500MCE card, if needed.

By the way, the card is HUGE.

What type of MoBo are you using? I was looking at upgrading to the MSI K8N NEO4-F nForce4 Athlon 64 Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard .

I'm just using an NFORCE2 motherboard (Shuttle AN35N-Ultra) which has 5 PCI slots, along with an Athlon XP 1800+.

By the way, does anyone know if the WinTV2000 app works with PVR-500MCE?
I just got mine and it doesn't appear to work with WinTV2000, but works fine with GBPVR.
