Have a real issue with Comcast not sure which step to take next

I've said this a million times before. Comcast's service is great, their CUSTOMER service is beyond horrible. Last August I signed up for new service with them, the promotion was $69.99/month for TV and internet for a year, free installation, and a $100 rebate debit card. I asked the sales rep on the phone at the time what paperword or contract there would be for the rebate, and he said that would be handled and signed for at the time of installation. Of course, he was wrong, the installer had no idea what I was talking about and said he didn't deal with that stuff, so I just signed the standard pink work order sheet and that was it. I called back and they assured me it would come in the mail after having service for 90 days. After about two months, I called again just for reassurance, and they told me the same thing - within 6 weeks after 90 days of service.

Well, it's now January 18th and of course no rebate card. I did a live chat online and she said she couldn't help and gave me a rebate number to call. I called it and they told me they didn't handle this particular rebate and to call Comcast. I talked to Comcast customer service, who forwarded my question to marketing who is now telling me that promotion never existed and I must be mistaken.

I am prepared to do whatever necessary to get my hundred bucks and to put Comcast in the worst light possible. How should I proceed going about acquiring names of supervisors and those responsible and filing formal complaints? I don't really care about the effort involved, this is about more than the money at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

It's only $100 so just get over it.

If you didn't get names ahead of time it's going to be so much more work now.

From what I understand, they change their tone pretty quick when you demand that your service be canceled unless they solve the problem to your satisfaction.

Well if you're thinking about going down to the local office and shooting the place up, don't waste your time, they've got bulletproof glass

They didn't bat an eye when I tried this the last time though it has worked well in the past.

That sounds like the deal you get when you go sign up at Best Buy. I have a feeling that rep gave you some bad info. Since you don't have anything in writing about the rebate, I don't see how you're gonna get anywhere with Comcast.

Did you even ever submit a rebate? I highly doubt Comcast has promos where they will automatically send your $100 after 90 days.

Its 60 days. After that, a rebate form is mailed out. After that form is completed and returned, it takes six weeks to get the card.

My guess is the OP missed the form.

The ONLY hope is that enough people eventually band together against them and refuse ANY service from them. We did a couple years ago, and have convinced dozens of our friends to do the same. I can't think of a company I'd more like to see bankrupted (except maybe verizon cellular).

You failed to accurately document the transaction, either by paper copy of offer or a recording of the phone call.... BTW, did you know that (depending on the state you live in) you don't have to give them notice of any recording your doing, because they warn you that's what they may do when you call in. But nobody ever does it (record from the consumer side), so they got you.
It's only a hundred dollars, you've probably vomited more in booze, so why the boo-hoo?
Get over it, remember, Economics is not a Zero Sum Game.

Cable companies suck. Customer service in today's world sucks. I am sorry for your pain. I do not think you will ever see your 100$ .

If you have names, dates, times, and PROOF [in writing] - then you have a case. Else..it's nothing more than "he said she said"

I too don't mind Comcast Internet service - but when dealing with their customer service - it's like talking to a GD used car salesman:

Comcast: "thank you for signing up for the Hockey package. BTW - I noticed you don't have phone service... for a special price reduction for 6 months, we can add phone service as part of our triple [your bill will be more than the national debt in 6 months] package"

Me: "No thanks - I use a work cell phone"

Comcast: "Oh - ok. Well..how'd you like to boost your [capped] internet service up to ludicrous speed? I notice here you are only at warp speed. Ludicrous speed offers you faster downloads! [even though you'll be capped if you try to download too much in a month]"

Me: "Nope..I'm fine with warp speed"

Comast: "Ok..well..since you've been a member forever, I'll upgrade you for free for 3 months. Thank you and have a nice day"

Me: "No..wait...stop.... @W%$@#$@$#!$"

Personally, I'd pack up my DVR and take it to the Comcast service depot. When they ask why you're returning it, let them know that you're canceling your service due to breach of contract by them not giving you your rebate as promised.

If they give you crap or attempt to charge you an early termination fee, file a complaint with the attorney general's office. They LOVE dealing with crooked companies like this one. If that doesn't work, call every local TV station that does a consumer protection segment in your area. If you give them enough bad publicity... they'll give you your damn rebate!

Yeah sounds like something they used to get you to sign up for service. Good luck getting your $100, I don't think your chances are that great unless other people in your area have had similar bad luck or you have something in writing. You could call them up and tell them you're canceling your service and reporting them to the better business bureau and see what they say then...

This seems to be the most likely scenario. At the time of signing up, no form was EVER discussed. I asked repeatedly if there would be confirmation of this offer - he said there'd be a contract at the time of installation. This was wrong. When I called back and asked, again, no rep ever mentioned a form. They just said "wait 90 days." Now as I google it I see that a form is pretty much always involved. I live in a four unit house so I suppose it's possible they mailed it and I missed it, but honestly I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt, and it wouldn't have been too hard for someone to mention this to me.

No, I have no proof. It wasn't my instinct to record the person's name and date every time I called. I realize the $100 is basically gone, and yes I did choose this plan over the internet alone with basic cable package because of it. I still want to give them a hard time though. I like the idea of calling local news stations. They are always desperate for things like this.

Call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. Comcast didn't do this on purpose and they usually have a backup plan in place for when the third party rebate places fail. Its a matter of staying calm and asking them to help you, not threatening petty things like calling your local tv station.
