Have any of you ever spontaneously quit a job? Was it worth it?

Two jobs. First was washing dishes for the deli at a Grand Union super market in upstate NY. I had worked there for a year and I finally had enough.

The second was when I worked for the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. I was selling advertising for their yellow page directory. I did that for a month and I absolutely hated it. I think I renewed 3 or 4 customers during that time and spent most of it just getting shut down.

Yeah with your expertise and experience I'm pretty sure you're well past the point of being scalded in front of the shop. I'd be looking elsewhere immediately.

Not sure what that means but if it means finding someone who does what I do, good luck (in the short run). The job is very much in demand and qualified, experienced people are VERY hard to come by....but, by that same token, many of the jobs are the same (long hours, require lots of travel, etc).

While your skills may be unique and difficult to replace, he'll find a way -- he'll have to, or it's time to close up shop and his meal ticket. People do pretty hardcore things when their livelihood's at stake or threatened.

I had a boss who was a salesmen. Professional bullshitter who did it to clients in front of me, even tried teaching me some of it, and he did the same to me. Made me his bitch for years, underpaid me. What your boss told you sounds very very familiar.

Sorry, never meant to suggest that I can't be replaced. EVERYONE can be replaced....I've learned that much in life. What would happen though is he would have to temporarily do all of the jobs while at the same time, trying to run the place (get quotes, etc). He does know full well though that finding someone qualified is VERY hard (as does every recruiter that I've talked to over the last 10 years).

We'll see how this turns out (if he keeps his word) but I'll be looking for the 'better' job at all times from this point forward.....

Good strategy. Your boss may be genuine and may make an honest effort to make things better, or he may just be trying to buy time and hope this whole problem goes away after a few weeks. It is always best to be in a position of strength where you can dictate what happens.

I was talking to my wife last night about my last job, and I've come to the conclusion that although I did jerk them around the last few weeks to my advantage, I probably should've just walked out the door and not given them the courtesy of a 2 week notice. A year after leaving, that is the only employer I've ever felt that way about.
